Burnley host Manchester City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at Turf Moor (Burnley) on Wednesday, September 30 and the match kicks off at 7.00pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
Burnley lost on their Premier League debut to Leicester (4-2) at the King Power Stadium, but followed it with a 0-2 win in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Millwall in midweek. Sean Dyche's depleted squad didn't have too much rest before the Premier League match against Southampton on Saturday, which they lost 0-1, and it will be doubtful if they can regroup when they meet the last season's cup winners. City on the other hand, opened their Premier League campaign with an away win against their Premier League'boogie' team, Wolves (1-3), which was followed by the match of third round of the Carabao Cup against Bournemouth in midweek, where they progressed to the next round with a 2-1 win. Most recently, they were defeated to Leicester at home (2-5) on Sunday, as Guardiola's side keeps blowing hot and cold.
MATCH ANALYSIS
After putting a solid but not good enough display against Leicester, Burnley followed it with a comfortable away win at The Den. After the match Dyche confirmed that Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens is expected to join the club, which will be the first positive news after the board and the manager locked horns over summer spending and lack of transfers. However, that won't be nearly enough as Dyche repeated his claims that they need players after a defeat to Southampton.
Dyche has rightly been praised for his leadership with a modestly assembled Clarets squad - having provided a second top-10 finish in five Premier League seasons in 2019/2020, but an already thin squad is at its limits. Dyche symbolically failed to make any changes late on in the Southampton match, and with little over a week until the transfer window closes, he will be desperate to add further signings. As for the cup game against City, they are overwhelming underdogs, but let's not write them off already as stranger things have happened in football.
As for Man City, Bournemouth was knocked out in the third round as young City players impressed in the match. 17-year-old Liam Delap scored on his debut, and two more twenty-year-olds were picked up in the starting eleven. However, Foden was the standout player of the match as he dictated play throughout the game. Having said that, he was ineffective against Leicester on Sunday, in a game where they clearly missed their two centre-forwards, Aguero and freshly-injured Gabriel Jesus.
Man City's Sunday's game against the Foxes clearly showed that the defense is still where they are most vulnerable, and it is difficult to predict how far they are going to go without their star players in the attack . However, one thing is for sure, anything else but a progress to the next round will be a blow for Guardiola's side on Wednesday.

And now, for some facts and stats. Looking back over the last decade, the two sides have played 14 times. The Clarets have won 1 and the City have won 10 , while 3 matches ended in a draw. They have not met so far in the EFL Cup, but have had two match-ups in the FA Cup in 2018 and 2019, which ended in 4-1 and 5-0 city win respectively.
Burnley have kept only a single clean sheet against City in their only win ever in those 14 meetings and Man City have kept their net 5 times (W5).
Both teams have scored in 8 out of 14 matches these two teams have played recently. That makes it 57% on average for both teams to score. Burnley's home games have seen 4 of their matches ending with both teams scoring (W0-D1-L3), while City have failed to score only once (L1) when away to Burnley.
Finally, when these sides have faced each other, there has been an average of 3.93 goals per game. Out of these, Burnley have scored an average of 0.86 goals, while Man City have averaged 3.07.
My prediction: City win

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
