Burnley host Sheffield Utd at Turf Moor (Burnley) in the 16th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Tuesday, December 29.
BURNLEY VS SHEFFIELD UTD MATCH ANALYSIS
Burnley come into this game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United on Saturday at Elland Road. Back on home turf, the Clarets should be confident of extending their unbeaten run there to four matches. They welcome the Blades sitting in the 17th with 13 points, two points above Fulham in the relegation zone. As for their Tuesday’s opponents, they are still waiting on their first league win this season after a 1-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday at Bramall Lane. They have now lost 13 games of the possible 15 (D2) and are rooted to the foot of the table with only 2 points.
The defeat at Leeds brought an end to a decent run of form for the Clarets, having picked up eight points from their previous four unbeaten matches, including a 1-0 win at Arsenal. They remain unbeaten in three at Turf Moor, though, most recently seeing off Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 there. Along with the Blades Burnley are the lowest scorers in the top flight, with eight apiece, so we may expect another low scoring match.
But Sean Dyche has found a way of getting results in recent weeks and they could easily have got something out of their last game, a Boxing Day 1-0 defeat by Leeds, too. An early first-half penalty from attacker Patrick Bamford was enough to seal the deal for Bielsa’s side, but it must be noted that the Clarets were hard done by the buffling decision to rule out perfectly good goal for a foul on Leeds goalkeeper.
For Sheffield Utd, on the other hand, the latest defeat puts them one step closer to the relegation, with the Yorkshire outfit being cut further adrift by the week. The Blades did not lack effort or commitment in their latest defeat but, yet again, that was not enough for them. They don't seem to be able to hurt teams. Tuesday's clash with Burnley really is in the must-win category, given that the Clarets are only just above the dropzone themselves.
On the Boxing Day, Gylfi Sigurdsson's late effort inflicted more heartbreak on the Blades, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table. As far as negative records go, this was their 18th consecutive winless PL game (D2, L16) - all of which they conceded in - for what is both the longest current winless run in the competition, and the longest current PL run without a clean sheet.

This is just the third Premier League meeting between Burnley and Sheffield United, with the Clarets winless in both meetings last season (D1 L1). Historically, in 10 previous encounters between the two sides, Burnley hold the clear advantage. They have won five games, to the Blades’ two.
The two clubs also faced each other a few months ago in the second round of the EFL Cup, where Burnley won in a penalty shootout, after a 1-1 draw.
Manager Sean Dyche remains the club's most important asset, and he will have to be at his tactical best to ensure that Burnley remain in the top division next season, while the future looks bleak for the Blades, especially with Jack O'Connell and Sander Berge out for some time.
