Burnley host Southampton in the third week of the Premier League at Turf Moor (Burnley) and the match kicks off at 8pm (UK). The hosts currently sit in 14th place in the table, while the visitors are in 19th.
MATCH PREVIEW
Burnley's Premier League home opener was postponed due to Manchester United's late involvement in Europa League semi-final. That's why they were given their Premier League debut a week from then at the King Power Stadium, which they unfortunately lost 4-2 to Leicester. They also have a third round Carabao Cup match against Millwall in midweek and it will be doubtful how much rest can a depleted Dyche's side get for the Sunday's home match against Southampton.
At the start of this 2020/2021 campaign the Saints were looking to keep the momentum from a really strong finish of the last season. Sadly for the Saints, in their season opener against Crystal Palace they looked like a disjointed side they were at the beginning of the last year and their misery compounded further by a heavy 2-5 defeat to Tottenham on their home debut last week. They will have to show much more pressure on the ball against Burnley if they want to start picking up points.
MATCH ANALYSIS
Already without five first-choice players and at the physical disadvantage of having not played last weekend, the Clarets' task will be even harder against the Saints as midfielder Robbie Brady went off with a rib injury during the first half in a Leicester match last Sunday. However, there were some positives as well to be taken from the match, with Burnley managing more shots on goal than the hosts and refusing to surrender until the fourth goal sealed the game. Another big positive from this game was the Premier League debut for the centre-back Jimmy Dunne, who even got on the score-sheet. Meanwhile, the board is not giving Sean Dyche any funds for new signings and for the time being, and for the Southampton game as well, he will have to do with players at his disposal.
As for the Saints, they finished last season on a high note. Losing midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg to Tottenham, shouldn't be a real stumbling block for this group, with the rest of the squad, including Jack Stephens, James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong still there. Add Danny Ings who almost finished the season with the Golden Boot to his name, and you have a strong core of the team who shouldn't be in a similar situation to last year's. But they apparently are. The Saints cannot rely on Ings to win games on his own and will need to be more solid defensively than they did in the second half as time and again they failed to pick up the runs by Son. Hopefully, Tottenham will be a harsh lesson for them, and Burnley away will be their third attempt at securing the first win in the league.

Last but not least, let's see the facts and stats. Looking back over the last decade, the two sides have played 13 times. The Clarets have won 5 and the Saints have won 4 , while 4 ended in a draw.
Burnley have kept 8 clean sheets in their last 20 home games and the visitors have missed the net in only 3 of their last 20 away league games.
Burnley's home games have seen 45% of their home matches ending with both teams scoring (W1 -D5-L3), and Southampton's percentage of their away games finishing with both teams scoring is little higher at 55% (W3-D4-L4)
Finally, when these sides have faced each other, there has been an average of 2.30 goals per game. Out of these, Burnley have scored an average of 1.5 goals, while Southampton have averaged 1.5.
With Burnley struggling with injuries and lack of funding, and Southampton trying to kick-start their campaign, I can see how this will be a tight game, so I predict the Under 2.5 goals bet for this game.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
