Atalanta is back in action in Serie A this weekend after reaching finals in Coppa Italia, and home team Cagliari will try to steal points at the Sardegna Arena on Sunday.
Ciro Immobile managed to batter down the Cagliari defenses and Alessio Cragno's resistance to give Lazio a sixth straight Serie A win. Since the start of 2021, Lazio picked up 19 points, fewer only than Manchester City and Monaco in Europe’s top five leagues. It was tougher than expected to break down a revamped Sardinian side at the Stadio Olimpico under driving rain. Cagliari transformed to a 3-4-2-1 formation and threw new signing Daniele Rugani into the starting XI for his debut. Riccardo Sottil, Ragnar Klavan, Luca Ceppitelli, Alfred Duncan, and Marko Rog missed the trip. Immobile got the goal on a Sergej Milinkovic-Savic knockdown, his dummy committing a defender and even Cragno’s hand not enough to keep it out. Cragno had made other key saves, while Pepe Reina was grateful that Gaston Pereiro fired over for Cagliari late on.
Cagliari coach Eusebio Di Francesco seems intent on repeating the 3-4-1-2 setup seen against Lazio, with recent signing Kwadwo Asamoah possibly earning a first start on the left flank in place of Charalampos Lykogiannis. The hosts will also be without Luca Ceppitelli, Alfred Duncan, Alessandro Deiola, Ragnar Klavan, and Riccardo Sottil, who all trained separately during the week and are unlikely to be ready to start on Sunday.
Cagliari (3-4-1-2): Cragno; Walukiewicz, Godin, Rugani; Zappa, Nandez, Marin, Tripaldelli; Nainggolan; Simeone, Joao Pedro
Suspended: none
Injured: Duncan, Deiola, Sottil, Rog, Luvumbo, Ceppitelli
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini dedicated the 3-1 win over Napoli to the fans. 'The regret is not living these moments with them', One goal from Duvan Zapata and a Matteo Pessina brace secured a place in the Final of the Coppa Italia against Juventus in May, and Gasperini was quick to dedicate the win to the supporters. “It’s a great satisfaction,” Gasperini said at the post-match conference. “We dedicate it to the fans. “Reaching the Final is a sign of continuity. This team will always try to push their limit because of our fans. We feel loyalty and passion, even when you are not in the stands.”
Gasperini was reminded that Atalanta’s only Coppa Italia success came against a Turin-based side but the coach stressed there are ‘many important’ games before the showdown with Juventus. “We will think about the Final later,” he said. “For us, it’s already a great success. Then we will play against an extraordinary side like Juventus, who are difficult to face. Now we have many important games, we will host Real Madrid. That will be an event for Bergamo. Expecting more from Atalanta seems difficult to me, even if there is too much talk about us. Let’s try to play our best."
For the visitors, Jose Luis Palomino returns to the defense, alongside Cristian Romero and Berat Djimsiti, due to Rafael Toloi's suspension. Wing-back Hans Hateboer is also unavailable, having failed to recover from injury, so Joakim Maehle is expected to deputize on the right if fit - Bosko Sutalo would drop to the bench. Josip Ilicic or Luis Muriel should start in support of Duvan Zapata upfront, depending on whether Gian Piero Gasperini opts to set up with a 3-4-2-1 or more conventional 3-5-2.
Atalanta (3-4-2-1): Gollini; Palomino, Romero, Djimsiti; Maehle, Pessina, Freuler, Gosens; Malinovskti, Ilicic; Zapata
Suspended: Toloi
Injured: Hateboer

Cagliari is on the brink of relegation if they continue with the bad streak and Atalanta on the other side must collect points everywhere to be competitive in the battle for the Champions League places. Both teams to score seems like the most probable outcome.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
