Cagliari and Crotone can take confidence from positive performances in the last round but they must step up in the defense when they meet at the Sardegna Arena on Sunday.
Crotone (11) and Cagliari (10) are two of the three teams who have conceded the most in Serie A, only beaten by Benevento (12) so far.
Cagliari picked up their first win against bad Torino last time around and bounced back from back-to-back defeats in Serie A against Lazio and Atalanta. Giovanni Simeone continues to impress up front and keeps Leonardo Pavoletti on the bench, as the Argentine surpassed 50 goals in Italy with a brace against the Granata. Problems are on the other end of the pitch, they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this season, despite some impressive performances from Alessio Cragno.
Cagliari tried to reinforce defense by signing Uruguay international Diego Godin from the Inter but he helped more offensively as a serious threat at every set-piece or corner situation for Cagliari. Marko Rog and Nandez are still finding chemistry in the midfield and Joao Pedro is more capable to score than create for Simeone in the first games of the season. Cragno is the busiest goalkeeper in Seria A and despite his brilliant saves Di Francesco most find him help in changing personnel or formation if he wants to stay at the bench of the Sardegna team.
Cagliari (4-2-3-1): Cragno; Zappa, Walukiewicz, Klavan, Lykogiannis; Marin, Rog; Nandez, Joao Pedro, Sottil; Simeone
Suspended: none
Injured: Ciocci, Pereiro, Pinna, Ceppitelli
Newly promoted Crotone arrive at the Sardegna Arena after holding the reigning champions Juventus to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Ezio Scida last weekend. But the draw with the Bianconeri is the first and only the point in Serie A for Crotone so far, after three straight defeats to Genoa, Milan, and Sassuolo, conceding 11 goals in four games.
Crotone missed Denis Dragus, Ahmad Benali, Koffi Djidji, Emanuel Riviere, and Niccolò Zanellato but nicked their first point in the season. Their best player Simy had the first chance, scuffing his finish wide from the edge of the area, and a bright Crotone start also earned them a penalty for Leonardo Bonucci’s mistimed tackle on Arkadiusz Reca. Simy converted by sending Buffon the wrong way to give Crotone the lead.
Chiesa immediately made an impact on his debut, running on to a Dejan Kulusevski through ball to roll it across for Alvaro Morata’s tap-in from six yards. The equalizer sparked a period of Juventus dominance, increasingly pinning the hosts back, but without truly testing Alex Cordaz until the 42nd minute when Portanova fired straight at the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Chiesa was having a good debut until the hour mark when the referee opted for a straight red card as he left his foot in on Cigarini. Juve almost scored moments later, Morata’s glancing header on a Kulusevski free-kick bouncing off the inside of the far post and into Cordaz’s arms. Morata had the ball in the back of the net on 76 minutes, opportunistic to redirect a wayward Juan Cuadrado angled drive in from close range. It was ruled offside by the slimmest of margins. That also prompted seven minutes of stoppages, during which Crotone came closer to winning it than 10-man Juve, but played out a tense 1-1 stalemate for their first point of the season.
Crotone (3-5-2): Cordaz; Magallan, Marrone, Luperto; Pereira, Vulic, Cigarini, Molina, Reca; Messias, Simy
Suspended: none
Injured: Djidji, Dragus

It is very hard to solve the defensive problems in a week and with Cagliari and Crotone incapable of avoiding troubles at the back both teams to score seems like the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
