Cagliari will host Lazio at the Sardegna Arena on Saturday after a hard-earned draw vs Sassuolo in the first round of the Seria A.
Cagliari had many ups and downs in several seasons and the last was a perfect example. After a bright start, they faded in mediocrity and finished in the lower part of the table. Once again, they have brought in numerous new faces in hope for consistency. They are trying to found the leader on the pitch and with veteran Godin from Inter they believe the search is over. In a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo, Cagliari had 33% possession and 8 shots on goal with 4 of them on target but they took the lead through Giovanni Simeone at the 77th minute. Sassuolo was much better, they tried hard from the start, managed 33 shots at goal with 9 of them on target but a late free-kick from Mehdi Bourabia gave them to point at the start of the season.
Cagliari looked a lot better at the start of the last season and the popular opinion is that they lost many points in close games. They would lose by one goal or let a team score a late equalizer and the final results in many games could be different. They could have easily finished in the top half of the league but made mistakes or did not have the luck. Winning those kinds of games, especially ones that they are leading late is a must for them. Interestingly, they started in the same manner in this season, but this time, Cagliari conceded late in the game where their opponent was better and deserved more than a draw, so they are more than satisfied with a point. Midfield options with Rog, Marin, and Nandez are guarantee that Cagliari will play good football and Joao Pedro and Simeone should profit from the players behind them.
Cagliari (4-3-3): Cragno; Zappa, Walukiewicz, Pisacane, Lykogiannis; Nandez, Marin, Rog; Sottil, Simeone, Joao Pedro
Suspended: None
Injured: Ciocci, Pereiro, Cerri, Ceppitelli, Klavan
Lazio has their first competitive match of the season, as their week 1 fixture with Atalanta was postponed to September 30 because their opponents were given extra time due to Champions League obligations. Lazio has had a fantastic last season, and they were so close to taking Juventus down, but thanks to their bad form after the restart, Lazio has ended the season in 4th place. After the return, they simply did not look to be the same team. They could not continue to perform on the same level and challenge Inter, Atalanta, and most importantly Juventus for the title. They again have a solid team that may struggle against even lower-tier sides if the most potent Europe striker Immobile is shut down and they must look elsewhere for offensive production.
They need a better Milinkovic-Savic who is always keen to leave if the right offer comes but he must focus on the pitch after not so glorious season for him. He is one of the best midfielders in the world in the final third with great goalscoring instinct but must perform every week to stay on the radar of the bigger clubs.
Simone Inzaghi’s team is practically unchanged, as Vedat Muriqi isn’t ready yet, while Mohamed Fares is likely to be benched in favor of Montenegrin Adam Marusic. Lazio was able to keep its best players Immobile, Alberto, Correa, and Milinkovic-Savic. The biggest departure for Lazio was Valon Berisha who was sold to Rennais in Ligue 1. They had a friendly with Benevento last weekend which ended in a goalless draw.
Lazio (3-5-2): Strakosha; Patric, Acerbi, Radu; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Luis Alberto, Marusic; Immobile, Correa
Suspended: None
Injured: Vavro, Luiz Felipe, Muriqi

Sardegna Arena is always a big mountain to climb for Cagliari’s rivals so both teams to score is a reasonable bet. Lazio is a favorite to gain three points but Cagliari will be a tough nut to crack.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
