At the end of this week's round of fixtures in Serie A, Cagliari is set to welcome AC Milan to the Sardegna Arena on Monday.
Cagliari winger Riccardo Sottil said he’s ‘convinced’ the Rossoblu can turn things around and ‘must follow’ coach Eusebio Di Francesco. The Fiorentina loanee scored the equalizer at 1-1 but couldn't help prevent a 3-1 defeat to Atalanta and an exit from the Coppa Italia on Thursday. But despite the poor start to 2020-21, the 21-year-old said he and his teammates are fully behind coach Eusebio Di Francesco. “We wanted to advance by beating a very strong opponent, it’s too bad because the reaction was the right one,” Sottil told the club’s website.
He said the Rossoblu are ‘working hard’ to turn things around, with Cagliari two points above relegation and on a winless streak of 10 games, including five consecutive defeats across all competitions. “This team has important values on a technical and moral level,” he said. “We are working hard to get out of a complicated situation. We must follow the coach because together we can react and start with Monday’s match against Milan. I’m convinced that we can improve and return to obtaining those results that have been missing.”
Eusebio Di Francesco has some selection concerns of his own, with Marko Rog out for the season, Paolo Farago and Zito Luvumbo injured, plus center-backs Ragnar Klavan and Andrea Carboni (both COVID-19) also out of contention. High-energy midfielder Nahitan Nandez is still suspended after his red card in the defeat to Benevento, so Adam Ounas could start in the three supporting out-of-form Giovanni Simeone upfront.
Cagliari (4-3-3): Alessio Cragno, Fabio Pisacane, Diego Godin, Sebastian Walukiewicz, Charalampos Lykogiannis, Christian Oliva, Riccardo Sottil, Razvan Marin, Radja Nainggolan, Joao Pedro, Giovanni Simeone
Stefano Pioli praised Milan for ‘always thinking positive’ in their Coppa Italia clash with Torino, which was decided 5-4 on penalties. Although the Rossoneri beat Toro 2-0 on Saturday in Serie A, they were unable to find a breakthrough after 120 minutes this evening, needing penalties. “I can’t help but be satisfied with the performance, as it was the fourth game in nine days, yet we never lacked spirit or intensity,” the coach told Milan TV. “It’s a pity we didn’t win it in the 90 minutes but we showed quality anyway because it’s not easy to convert five out of five penalties. We believe in our qualities. We always think positive during games and remain concentrated. That is what’s paying off because games are difficult and complicated, so you need that belief.”
Milan will face Inter in the Coppa Italia quarter-final but they are fully focused on the next Serie A match. Rossoneri arrived in Cagliari facing several important absences. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is fit to lead the line for Stefano Pioli's side. Rafael Leao is suspended and Ante Rebic self-isolating due to COVID-19. Midfielder Rade Krunic also remains in quarantine, but Pioli hopes to have Ismael Bennacer and Alexis Saelemaekers (both thigh strains) back in action. Centre-back Matteo Gabbia (knee) is also a doubt, with Theo Hernandez and Hakan Calhanoglu both missing training on Friday as a precaution.
AC Milan (4-3-3): Gianluigi Donnarumma, Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Alessio Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez, Sandro Tonali, Franck Kessie, Brahim Diaz, Samu Castillejo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jens Petter Hauge

It is always tricky for a league leader when they must face a struggling team that doesn't have anything to lose. Cagliari will give their best and because of that both teams to score is the most reasonable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
