Napoli is in crisis mode after one point from three rounds to the end of 2020, but Cagliari can’t count on Radja Nainggolan yet.
The Sardinians signed Nainggolan on loan from Inter, but as the transfer window only technically opens on January 4, he will not be available for this game. He was brought in largely as a replacement for ex-Napoli midfielder Marko Rog, who is out for six months with a knee injury. The Belgian spent 2019-20 on loan at the Casteddu and has now signed for a third stint in Sardinia. Nainggolan scored six goals and contributed six assists in his 26 Serie A games for the Rossoblu last term.
It was certainly an eventful match at the Stadio Olimpico, as Cagliari kept coming back, but Roma held on for the 3-2 victory. Jordan Veretout had opened the scoring with an unorthodox finish, and Alessio Cragno made several crucial saves for the Sardinians. Joao Pedro pounced on a defensive error to level matters, but Edin Dzeko and Gianluca Mancini struck twice in quick succession. It still wasn’t over, as a Joao Pedro penalty kept Roma on their toes to the end.
Diego Godin is in doubt for Cagliari’s first game of 2021 against Napoli after a muscular problem in training. The Uruguay international only just returned to the field after a period out with COVID-19. The Sardinians had a training session, with Godin, Paolo Faragò, and Zito Luvumbo working separately from the group. A statement confirms Godin has an issue with the soleus muscle in his left leg.
Cagliari (4-2-3-1): Cragno; Zappa, Ceppitelli, Walukiewicz, Lykogiannis; Marin, Oliva; Nandez, Joao Pedro, Sottil; Simeone
Suspended: None
Injured: Ciocci, Luvumbo, Rog, Godin, Faragò
The Partenopei are struggling badly and injuries remain a problem, with Victor Osimhen, Dries Mertens, and Kalidou Koulibaly still out of action. Lorenzo Insigne pulled a magical goal out the hat in stoppages to snatch a point for Napoli, as Torino fumbled yet another leading situation. The Granata had the better of the first half and took a deserved lead when Armando Izzo turned in the corner against his hometown club. With coach Marco Giampaolo under serious pressure, the entire team ran to the touchline to celebrate with him. Insigne marked his return from suspension with a trademark right-foot curler into the far top corner. Incredibly, Torino has now dropped 23 Serie A points from leading situations this season.
Napoli (4-3-3): Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Maksimovic, Mario Rui; Fabian Ruiz, Bakayoko; Lozano, Zielinski, L Insigne; Petagna
Suspended: None
Injured: Osimhen, Mertens, Koulibaly, Malcuit

Napoli has won each of their last five Serie A trips to Sardinia with clean sheets. They’ve lost only one of the most recent 20 league meetings with Cagliari, drawing five and winning 14 so away win is a primary betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
