This could be one of the biggest relegation battles of the season, because the loser may well say goodbye to the hope of avoiding the drop, and they are both Serie A regulars. Read our reasons for Cagliari vs Parma prediction and betting tips.
Just two points are separating these sides going into the match, with Cagliari on 22 points and Parma 20. Both could well end up going down, as Torino are five in front with a game in hand, to be played against Lazio. Looking at the squads, it seems impossible that either of them should be in this position, but changes of management, confusion over transfer strategy, and damaging injuries left them fighting for survival. Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini admits he is ‘furious’ to see them risk relegation ahead of the showdown with Parma. ‘I even felt betrayed by the team.’ “They’ll need to show what they have been unable to in the previous 30 rounds. This is the game of a lifetime. We believe in safety, but have to focus on the short-term and that means beating Parma.”
Although Cagliari has improved since Eusebio Di Francesco was fired, Leonardo Semplici has lost momentum too. “We didn’t do what we expected, we changed coach, started to play well, then fell into the same old mistakes. For example, if we had faced Juventus the way we did Inter, then we might’ve got a result out of it. I wouldn’t say I am disappointed with this season, I’d say I am furious and I genuinely struggle to express how angry I am. We have an important squad, with champions like Diego Godin, Radja Nainggolan, Giovanni Simeone and Daniele Rugani. We didn’t expect to be in this situation. What we wanted to do was improve on last season, but now we’re left with desperation, fury, and hunger, the characteristics we need to get out of this hole. Money spent on wages or transfers doesn’t translate to results. What you need is the hunger to save Cagliari, and that is what I’ve rarely seen this season. I struggle to understand why we are still in this situation. There’s no more time, we’ve got to come together. I hate walking around the streets of Cagliari feeling ashamed of this team. I even felt betrayed by the team lately, but I don’t want to talk about individuals. I get the impression still that everyone here believes we can secure safety, but they’ve got to prove it to me on Saturday. “I am not saying that anyone betrayed us or was already thinking about their next club, but I felt at times betrayed by the group.”

Parma coach Roberto D’Aversa has regrets after they ‘gave goals away so cheaply’ in the 3-1 defeat to 10-man Milan. ‘We were too timid in the first half.’ The Ducali were beaten at the Stadio Tardini by Ante Rebic and Franck Kessie goals, then Zlatan Ibrahimovic saw red for dissent on the hour mark. Riccardo Gagliolo got one back, only for Rafael Leao to add the Rossoneri’s third in stoppages on the counter. “We didn’t do enough when against 10 men. We had also compromised the game in the first half, as we were too timid and hesitant against a great team, but one that had just dropped points with Sampdoria. That showed they struggle when put under pressure and we just weren’t aggressive enough,” the coach told the media. “The red card gave us a way back in, but we did the damage in the first half. I replaced Gervinho at the break, but many players were below par and had a slow tempo in the first half. We came out with a different attitude after the break, but we could’ve done better. We conceded those two goals far too easily and a team trying to save itself from the drop cannot afford to give away goals so cheaply. It was a lack of determination and character, that’s what was unacceptable. We were too timid, didn’t run off the ball, didn’t provide options. The second half was better, but not just because we were against 10 men, as the attitude was different from the first minute of the half. Milan gave us a ‘gift’ as it were with the red card, but I didn’t have attacking options to take off the bench and shake things up.”
Parma is on just 20 points from 30 Serie A games, in penultimate place, and it’s looking increasingly as if only one from Torino, Cagliari, and Parma will stay up. “I can only talk about the period I’ve been here this season, but we have improved in terms of performance and fitness levels. The main problem now is that we continue to concede too many goals and too cheaply. We have more possession and more shots on goal now, but compared to past seasons, opponents find it much easier to get goals against us. That’s what has changed. I mean, we lost this game 3-1, not 2-1, because of another really silly error in stoppages.”
Parma (4-3-3): Sepe; Conti, Bani, Osorio, Pezzella; Kucka, Kurtic, Hernani; Man, Pellè, Gervinho
Suspended: Gagliolo
Injured: Nicolussi Caviglia, Iacoponi, Inglese, Brunetta, Zirkzee, Karamoh, Sohm, Mihaila, Cyprien

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
