Cardiff host Coventry at the Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff) in the 29th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, February 13. Read our reasons for Cardiff vs Coventry prediction and betting tips.
The Bluebirds look to extend their winning run to three on Saturday with a first home game with Coventry in nine years. After six defeats in all competitions Cardiff are now unbeaten in four (W2, D2) coming into this match on the back of a 2-1 win at Rotherham and have moved up into 11th place, still 8 big points from the top-six. As for Coventry, after a poor performance in a 2-1 defeat against Notts Forest and a goalless draw with Watford at home, the visitors are in 18th, lingering only 3 points from the bottom-three and will do good with anything from this match to widen that gap.
Cardiff had been without a win in more than a month (L6, D1) in all competitions after a 3-2 win against Birmingham on December 16. That downturn in form was enough for Neil Harris to get a sack and the club named Mick McCarthy as a replacement in the dug-out for the rest of the season. Harris had left Cardiff in 15th in the Championship, closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs, but Harris has managed to steady the ship since and move closer to the play-off berths.
The Cardiff revival under Mick McCarthy continued as Joe Bennett's late header earned them a 2-1 win at Rotherham. After a season-best display last time out in their 2-0 win at Bristol, McCarthy would no doubt have liked to pick an unchanged side, but goalkeeper Alex Smithies was ruled out by the illness that forced him off at Ashton Gate. The deadlock was broken in an even first half when Sheyi Ojo raced clear to give Cardiff the lead and Bennett scored the winner (84’) to make it four unbeaten under their new boss.
The Sky Blues, on the other hand, have been missing from the Championship for eight years and Mark Robins, in his second stint at the club, did an excellent job of leading the team back to the second-tier, and he did so in style. For them, the biggest objective is surely to stay up and anything better than that will be a bonus. They still look like they’re trying to find their feet in their long-awaited return to the second-tier of English football, but are currently safe from the drop.
However, Coventry remain in danger of being sucked back into the relegation zone after three league games without a win (D2, L1). The lack of goals was no surprise in their most recent draw against the Hornets, with Coventry now having had six scoreless draws this season, only one more than Watford. The Sky Blues were sharp and inventive, but wayward in front of goal as so many times before and were unable to make their dominance count.

Cardiff meet Coventry having recorded 10 wins to visitors’ 5 from their last 20 meetings overall. They last hosted Coventry for a league match back in 2012, a 2-2 draw in the Championship. However, Coventry had won the reverse fixture at home on November 24 (1-0) and are looking for their first league double over Cardiff since the 1965/66 season.
The Bluebirds have relied on Wales international Kieffer Moore for goals, while forwards Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo, both on loan from Liverpool, have proved to be crucial as well.
Coventry, on the other hand, have won only one of their last five league games. Mark Robins' side have recruited smartly, but will be keen to ensure that they do not get dragged into a relegation battle.
