Cardiff host Preston at Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff) in the 31st round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, February 20. Read our reasons for Cardiff vs Preston prediction and betting tips.
Cardiff are currently 7th in the Championship table and are in brilliant form coming into this game. They have won their last four league games, with Wales international Kieffer Moore leading the line well for them. Preston, on the other hand, are 13th in the standings, having won only one of their last five league games. They sold key centre-back, Ben Davies, to Liverpool in January, but have recruited Scottish centre-back Liam Lindsay and young Dutch centre-back Sepp van den Berg on loan from Stoke City and Liverpool respectively.
Cardiff's chances of achieving promotion have soared after a whirlwind few weeks which has seen them accrue fourteen points in six games. Just a few short weeks ago, the thought of even entertaining a Bluebirds promotion this season had seemingly been flung out the window. However, under Mick McCarthy, City are now unbeaten in six matches, winning their last four, and now occupy seventh place in the Championship table, one spot outside the play-offs.
The most recent of Cardiff's wins came at Luton Town in midweek thanks to impressive long-range strikes from Harry Wilson and Will Vaulks. Cardiff's return of 14 points from the 18 under McCarthy is the best of any side in the division over that timeframe and following this victory at Kenilworth Road, only Manchester United have won more games on their travels in English football's top four tiers than Cardiff since February 2020.
Meanwhile, Preston might still just be hanging onto their spot in the top-half of the Championship table, but Alex Neil’s men do find themselves in the midst of a sluggish patch. Eventually hit with a 2-1 loss at home against second-tier returners Rotherham, they bounced back at Blackburn last weekend, but another defeat at home to Watford (0-1) have seen Alex Neil’s side slipped out of the top-12. The Whites have picked up just two wins since opening 2021 nothing but three points here will boost their slim play-off hopes.
Preston's away results have been inconsistent, to say the least, having alternated between defeat and victory in their last six games, most recently winning 2-1 at Blackburn Rovers. Alex Neil's men followed that up with a loss at home to Watford, however, and they have now won just two of their last nine overall. That has seen North End slip down to 13th, four points behind Cardiff, and 10 adrift of the playoffs - what is surely an insurmountable gap at this stage in the campaign.

Cardiff meet Preston having won have won their last two league games against the Whites, including a 1-0 win at Preston in the reverse fixture in October. They also have a slightly better record against the visitors in their last 20 meetings, with 9 wins to Preston’s 7.
Since Mick McCarthy’s first game in charge of Cardiff on January 27th, the Bluebirds have won more points than any other Championship side (14), winning four and drawing two of their six games under him. However, the visitors can point out the fact that only Norwich (9) have won more Championship away games than Preston (8) this season.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
