Cardiff host Reading in the third week of the Championship at Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff) on saturday, September 26 and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
Cardiff suffered a shock home 0-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in south Wales on their opening day. It was surely an unexpected score-line for the Bluebirds having in mind the ambitions of both sides this season. Neil Harris hoped his team would respond appropriately and pick up first points when they travelled to Nottingham, and they did just that, defeating Nottingham Forest 0-2 for their first win of the campaign. Now they host Reading, who are top of the table, hoping they can put an end to their perfect start.
Two quick goals before half-time helped Reading to a routine win over Derby County at Pride Park on the opening day and their 2-0 victory in the second week against nine-man Barnsley was their first home Championship win since the end of February. Worth mentioning is that fit-again Lucas Joao will be like a new signing for manager Veljko Paunovic, as the Royals are building their momentum.
MATCH ANALYSIS
If the Bluebirds find the grit so typical of them, the goals should hopefully come as well and we have witnessed just that against Nottingham. Cardiff's manager Neil Harris was satisfied with the overall performance and was especially pleased for Kieffer Moore getting off the mark with a brace.
Harris mentioned that they are looking to bring in another attacking-minded player to add depth and end-product to his side. So far, the team has responded well to criticism that they are not on the same level as last year, by doing their talking on the pitch. Against the league leaders, they need to show the same mentality to go that extra yard.
As for Reading, they are top of the table on goal difference above Bristol City and Luton, after two wins and two clean sheets. For the Royals, that elusive X-factor from the previous seasons could be the huge team-work, where everybody knows and understands their role, and especially the ability to adapt during the games.
To further boost his options, Paunovic have signed young Everton defender Gibson on a season-loan and Atletico Madrid's midfielder Rodrigo Riquelme is also closing in on a loan move. Both should be good additions as Paunovic's side are looking to make it three successive wins in the league and to retain their spot at the summit after the Cardiff match on Saturday.

Last but not least, let's see the facts and stats. Looking back over the last decade, the two sides have played 18 times. The Bluebirds have won 4 and the Royals have won 5 , while 9 ended in a draw.
Cardiff have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 20 home games and the visitors have missed the net in 5 of their last 20 away league games.
Cardiff's home games have seen 50% of their home matches ending with both teams scoring (W4 -D1-L5), and Reading's percentage of their away games finishing with both teams scoring is the same at 50% (W3-D2-L5)
Finally, when these sides have faced each other, there has been an average of 2.61 goals per game. Out of these, Cardiff have scored an average of 1.22 goals, while Reading have averaged 1.39.
My prediction for the game: both teams to score
