Cardiff host Watford at the Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff) in the 36th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 13. Read our reasons for Cardiff vs Watford prediction and betting tips.
Cardiff are still unbeaten under Mick McCarthy, it’s now eleven matches without defeat, but, last Friday, for the second successive away match, the Bluebirds were scrappy, uninspired and somewhat off the pace. However, just as at Middlesbrough, they scrapped their way to a draw – this time a goalless one at Huddersfield, which was enough to keep them in the play-offs contention ahead of this weekend. As for Watford, after securing a 1-0 victory over Nottingham last weekend, and remaining in 2nd place, the Hornets will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce on Saturday. While manager Xisco Munoz will be wary of the threats that Mick McCarthy's Bluebirds side possess, his players could prove to be too strong for their counterparts if they perform at their very best.
Since the arrival of Mick McCarthy as a manager, Cardiff City have enjoyed a turnaround which has been nothing short of miraculous. The Bluebirds were 15th in the table when he took over from Neil Harris and the aim was to get them out of the rut they were in and propel themselves away from a looming relegation battle. Mick McCarthy's soaring Bluebirds are now right in the play-off mix as we reach boiling point in this Championship season.
Cardiff have emerged from nowhere to appear on the cusp of an unlikely top-six charge after a stunning spell of 11 games unbeaten. This resurgent City side have the wind in their sails as they enter the last 11 games of the campaign, but they are not alone. While Barnsley currently occupy that coveted sixth place in the table, with a game in hand, too, Bournemouth, Cardiff, and ’Boro are hot on their tails in a bid to usurp them come the season's end. It is all set up to be another enthralling climax to this season, but who will come out on top?
Meanwhile, it’s a fascinating battle for the second spot in the Championship right now and there are several clubs still in the mixer for it, and Watford might just sneak in and claim it. They’ve not been at their fluent best for a large part of this season and it’s only in recent weeks that we’ve seen the Hornets really showcase what they’re capable of. Watford seem to be hitting their best form at the right time, whereas the likes of Brentford and Swansea haven’t looked as assured in recent weeks.
The quality and depth that Watford possess is superb in all honesty for this level, and quality can see them over the line. However, for Watford, emphasis is now on the forthcoming, relatively gentle set of fixtures. They recorded two solid, uncomplicated wins against Wycombe and Huddersfield, which was much needed after a bump in the road against Bournemouth. Pick up some speed and they head into the big games after Easter with momentum. Fail to deliver and the Hornets will be needing to make up points from a run that will look a lot more daunting.

Cardiff meet Watford for the first time at the Cardiff City Stadium since February 2019 in the Premier League, which was a 5-1 win for the Hornets. Cardiff are on their best unbeaten run (11) since a 13-game stretch between January and April 2018 during their last Championship promotion-winning season. However, only Norwich (33) have won more Championship points since Xisco Muñoz’s first game in charge on Boxing Day than Watford (32).
Cardiff celebrated a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture at the Vicarage Road in December and we can see the Hornets pumped up to end McCarthy’s unbeaten run and avenge that loss on Saturday afternoon.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
