Celtic and AC Milan meet at the start of the group stage of the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League.
It is a tough time to be a Celtic fan. After years of domination in the Scottish Premiership, they are second best in the standings and defeated in derby vs Rangers on Saturday. They also didn't have success in qualifiers for the UEFA Champions League, so the overall start of the season must be rated as very bad. The Scottish champions recovered from their UEFA Champions League elimination to Ferencvaros at home, defeating Riga and Sarajevo 1-0 away from home en route to the Europa League group stage. Celtic’s eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions came to a halt at the weekend. A 2-0 loss in the Old Firm against Rangers saw them fail to register a single attempt on target. A brace from English center-back Connor Goldson ensured victory for Steven Gerrard's men.
Coronavirus prevented them to field the best team for the weekend and the situation isn't better for the next match. The in-form striker Odsonne Edouard has scored four Scottish Premiership goals this season but he was left out of the derby due to testing positive for COVID alongside Nir Bitton and Hatem Elhamed, with the trio set to miss the match against AC Milan. Winger James Forrest is also out with an ankle injury. Signs are a lot more promising for striker Albian Ajeti who came off the bench against Rangers after recovering from a hamstring injury. Midfielder and Scottish international Ryan Christie is also expected to return after being in quarantine.
Celtic (3-5-2): Vasilis Barkas, Christopher Jullien, Shane Duffy, Kristoffer Ajer, Jeremie Frimpong, Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham, Callum McGregor, Diego Laxalt, Albian Ajeti, Leigh Griffiths
Milan finished sixth in Serie A last season but has made a good start to their new league campaign. They won all four matches in the league and they were particularly impressive in the 2-1 win against Inter in the Milan derby on Saturday. Zlatan Ibrahimović scored a brace for the top place in the standings, showing once again that he is still more than capable to make a difference even on the highest level. Their good run has taken them to 19 league and cup games unbeaten with no loss since 8th March.
AC Milan nearly didn’t make it into the group stages and they had to take on Rio Ave from Portugal in the play-off round and needed a 122nd-minute penalty to get a 2-2 draw, The Danish captain Simon Kjær scored the decisive penalty in the dramatic series were Rio Ave had several chances to wrap the win.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Milan will be without Hakan Calhanoglu for at least 10 days after he suffered a sprained ankle. The Turkey international sustained the injury during a training session and was spotted on crutches. It’s reported the tests confirmed a sprained ankle and he will be out of action for at least 10 days. That would mean Calhanoglu will miss the upcoming matches against Celtic, Roma, and Sparta Prague between Serie A and the Europa League. He’s also a doubt against Udinese, so will probably only make his comeback after the break for international duty in November. The midfielder had a great start to the season, contributing four goals and three assists in seven games. Also, they will be without Croatian forward Ante Rebic and center-back Mateo Musacchio, who are both out due to injuries. There remain doubts over the availability of Brazilian center-back Leo Duarte and young defender Matteo Gabbia.
AC Milan (4-3-3): Gianluigi Donnarumma, Andrea Conti, Simon Kjaer, Alessio Romagnoli, Diogo Dalot, Sandro Tonali, Rade Krunic, Brahim Diaz, Jens Petter Hauge, Lorenzo Colombo, Samu Castillejo

Milan should be the favorite to win this game but if Zlatan doesn't show up they could have some troubles scoring. Celtic was very bad in the attack recently so under 2,5 goals at the start of the campaign could be the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
