Charlton host Lincoln at the Valley (London) in the rescheduled Round 40 of the League One and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday, May 4. Read our reasons for Charlton vs Lincoln prediction and betting tips.
With Charlton drawing 1-1 at Accrington, Nigel Adkins’ side are now four points behind Portsmouth in 6th having played one match less. The Addicks’ are sat 8th in the league and their game in hand comes against Lincoln on Tuesday night. They need a victory to keep the pressure on Pompey heading into the final day of the season. Meanwhile, Lincoln have already guaranteed a play-off spot at the time of writing amid the controversy surrounding Peterborough’s promotion-winning penalty (3-3) against the Imps. Automatic promotion may be out of the question, but promotion remains a possibility for Lincoln, with a place in the play-offs assured with two games of the regular season to spare.
The Addicks could only draw away at Accrington Stanley as Chuks Aneke netted in stoppage time to steal a point for the Londoners, meaning that Portsmouth moved four points clear of their rivals as a result after they won away at Wimbledon. It now means that Charlton simply must get a victory in their next game against Lincoln at the Valley if they are to stand any chance of keeping the pressure on Pompey at the very least.
However, with both their remaining games coming at home, Charlton could well see that as a big psychological advantage over their rivals as we wait to see who will finish in the top six. The Addicks manager Nigel Adkins also expects his side to keep their belief despite falling behind in the race for the League One play-offs on Saturday. Lincoln have already guaranteed a play-off spot at the time of writing and could well take their foot off the gas during the midweek clash between the two sides.
As for the Imps, they were leading 3-2 deep into added time at London Road and looked set to take the battle for the second automatic promotion spot into the final week of the season. However, Sammie Szmodics was bizarrely adjudged to have been brought down by Anthony Scully, who appeared to be an innocent party in the incident. Jonson Clarke-Harris fired home the resulting spot-kick to secure the point Posh needed to seal a top-two finish and left Lincoln heartbroken.
Nevertheless, Lincoln must now look at the bigger picture after reaching the play-offs for the first time ever at League One level and for only the seventh time in the club’s history - Michael Appleton’s side will possibly have the least pressure on their shoulders of any of the play-off sides. Lincoln now have two warm-up matches, starting against Charlton on Tuesday. While the play-offs might be a tough route to take given how Lincoln have a record of six failures from six attempts, it is a gift that few fans expected to be handed back at the start of September.

Charlton host Lincoln in the league for the sixth time and for the first time since February 1961. The Addicks have never lost at home against the Imps in a league encounter, winning four of their previous five (D1). However, Lincoln won the reverse fixture 2-0 in September 2020, which was only the second time they have beaten Charlton in the league (P11, D4, L5).
Charlton have only lost one of their last 13 games in League One (W6 D6), although they are winless in their most recent three such outings (D2 L1). On the other hand, Lincoln have won three of their last four away league games (D1), while no team have won more on the road than them in League One this season.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
