Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge (London) in the 36th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8.15 pm (UK) on Wednesday, May 12. Read our reasons for Chelsea vs Arsenal prediction and betting tips.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have now beaten their Champions League final opponents twice in recent weeks following Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League victory at the Etihad Stadium and the triumph in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley last month. However, although Saturday’s win lifted them to third, Chelsea still have work to do in their final three fixtures to secure a top-four position. On the other hand, The Gunners consigned Sam Allardyce’s West Brom back to the Championship with a 3-1 win at The Emirates - first home win since beating derby rivals Tottenham on March 14. It means that Arteta can still mathematically guide Arsenal into Europe’s lesser competitions come the end of the campaign.
In a game that was mainly a free-hit for Chelsea’s top-four hopes, a late Alonso goal grabbed all three points and ensured the team have one foot in next year’s Champions League. For the most part, the game was a low-speed affair with both teams looking to recharge their batteries after their grueling midweek games. The game looked more like a dress rehearsal for next season’s potential Community Shield than this season’s Champions League final, with both teams using multiple second-string players.
With a six points cushion over West Ham in fifth, it looks like Chelsea will hold off competition from their rivals and finish in the top four. There’s still work to do on that front, but they are finishing strongly and looking likely to get themselves over the line. The Blues have won each of their last three league games, beating West Ham 1-0 in East London before downing Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge prior to their win at the Etihad. Confidence seems to be sky-high in the home dressing room ahead of another London derby.
As for the visitors, after one of the lowest moments of the post-Arsene Wenger era, Arsenal needed a response against struggling West Brom. Despite the Baggies' league position, a win was anything but assured. The Gunners' home record going into the bout was shoddy and Sam Allardyce's charges have shown themselves capable of springing an upset this season. For once though, Arsenal did put in a performance worthy of a club of their stature.
A 3-1 win was much needed and the performances of a few players in particular offered Gunners fans hope that a brighter future might be over the horizon. This was a positive response to their Europa League semi-final exit at the hands of Villarreal and just about kept alive their hopes of securing European football in some guise next season. It is an indictment of Arsenal’s own league campaign that, if West Brom had won in north London, they would have moved closer in the table to the Gunners than Mikel Arteta’s men are to second-placed Man Utd.

Chelsea meet Arsenal having not suffered defeat in their last eight home Premier League matches against the Gunners (W6, D2) since losing 5-3 at Stamford Bridge back in October 2011 under André Villas-Boas. On the other hand, Arsenal won 3-1 against Chelsea on Boxing Day earlier this season in the Premier League, last completing a double over the Blues in their 2003/04 title-winning campaign.
Arsenal have never lost a Premier League match against Chelsea when facing them in a midweek tie (Tuesday or Wednesday), though six of those games have ended level (W2). However, on current form, we can’t see Arsenal getting past Chelsea or coming away even with a point from Stamford Bridge.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
