Chelsea host Newcastle at the Stamford Bridge (London) in the 24th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Monday, February 15. Read our reasons for Chelsea vs Newcastle prediction and betting tips.
Thomas Tuchel has pulled the Blues out of a rut. Sunday’s hard-fought 2-1 league win at Bramall Lane lifted Chelsea to fifth in the table, one point behind Liverpool in fourth, and a 1-0 win at Barnsley means that they are in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Frenchman's Chelsea are unbeaten in six games in all competitions, winning five, and have moved back in contention for the Premier League top-four. As for Newcastle, the Magpies will need Joe Willock and Miguel Almirón to shine once again, while Callum Wilson sits on the sidelines, to claim a positive result here. They come into the weekend in 16th place, with a sizeable gap of ten points between themselves and the bottom three. There has been an upturn in results too, as Newcastle have won two of their last three, winning 3-2 most recently against Southampton.
Since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, the Blues have won five and drawn one of their fixtures, conceding just the solitary goal in their most recent outing, the weekend victory at Sheffield Utd. The new manager appointment is paying dividends for the capital side as he has succeeded in his immediate task to improve the position of a club who are now 5th in the Premier League after spending more than £220m in summer.
Since a dismal 0-0 draw against Wolves in his first game in charge, Tuchel has led Chelsea to three straight league wins and reached the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. While Chelsea may not be as exciting to watch as they were under Lampard, they are certainly more efficient at both ends of the field. They have conceded just once in four games in all competitions, and Tuchel is beginning to get the best out of Werner and Havertz. They are just a point behind Liverpool in 4th and could move into a CL place with a win against Newcastle.
Meanwhile, during Newcastle’s lengthy winless streak this winter Steve Bruce must have road-tested every formation in the tactical showroom. He used a 3-4-3 set-up for the reverse fixture in November, a 2-0 win for Chelsea but their recent three-point hauls were achieved with a more adventurous 4-3-1-2 that suits the flair of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin. However, only West Brom and Crystal Palace have let in more league goals this season.
Already deprived of the services of centre-halves Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez, Steve Bruce reverted to a back four for a vital 3-2 win against Southampton, with feisty midfielder Isaac Hayden redeployed as a central defender. However, the three points Saints in that game came at considerable cost to the Magpies, who completed the last 17 minutes with nine on the field. Jeff Hendrick is suspended against the Blues, and Fabian Schar fell to an injury that will rule him out for some time.

Chelsea have beaten Newcastle in each of their last eight home matches and the visitors haven’t won at Stamford Bridge since a 2-0 win in May 2012. However, the Magpies ended a three-match winning streak for Chelsea just over 12 months ago when they won 1-0 at St James’ Park.
Chelsea are building again under Thomas Tuchel – five wins and a draw feels like more than new manager bounce. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s away form this year has been underwhelming, as they have picked up just three wins. Bruce will likely set up for a draw at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea should be able to claim a victory here.
