Chelsea host Porto at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium (Seville, Spain) in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Tuesday, April 13. Read our reasons for Chelsea vs Porto prediction and betting tips.
Chelsea come into this match with a strong 2-0 lead to take into the second leg, taking a big step towards the Champions League semi-finals. While the Blues were far from their best in the final third, their solid defence was as reliable as expected since Thomas Tuchel arrived, and controlling 61 percent of possession of the ball certainly played a big part in the first leg. Meanwhile, Sergio Conceicao’s side that reached this stage of the competition by eliminating Juve in the round of 16, seems like to have finally reached the end of the road after Thomas Tuchel managed his team to get the expected result in Portugal. Nevertheless, they still have plenty of potential to cause problems.
Chelsea took the lead on 32 minutes when Mason Mount produced a superb turn and clinical finish to further enhance his growing reputation. Christian Pulisic later hit the bar following a neat break before Ben Chilwell pounced on some sloppy defending to round keeper Agustin Marchesin and double the advantage. It was the first time Chelsea’s talented duo had scored in European competition and an eighth clean sheet in nine matches for the Blues. However, Tuchel warned against complacency, especially in light of their recent Premier League blip versus West Brom.
At the moment, the Blues don’t look like conceding as they did against West Brom, let alone losing this tie after a comprehensive first-leg win. They have looked a much more accomplished outfit since Tuchel took charge and that was especially illustrated in two Champions League games against Atletico and the first-leg against the Portuguese outfit. Tuchel has helped to make this talented team much more compact and that should stand them in good stead again here.
As for Porto, they showed a lot of strengths in their intensity both with and without the ball in the first leg. They caused Chelsea problems from corners throughout the match, combined quickly on the wings to get behind Chelsea’s backline, and created opportunities for long shots that could yet trouble Chelsea in the second leg. It’s worth remembering Porto upset the odds when getting past Juventus via the away goals rule after drawing 4-4 on aggregate over two legs.
However, against Chelsea, there were few signs of enterprising play which helped them to stun the Italian giants. Porto may still have the chance to qualify for the semi-finals but it’s essential they get the early goal and score first. Conceicao will do his best to try to rally his troops but we are not so convinced of their ability to make things interesting in the second contest. Porto is truly a beatable side and the difference between Chelsea and Juventus is that the Blues didn’t give them a chance, while Juve was a bit more generous at the back.

Chelsea meet Porto having previously won six of their nine UEFA Champions League games against the Blues (D1, L2) - first leg included - while this will be only the second knock-out tie between Chelsea and Porto in the Champions League, with the Blues progressing 3-2 on aggregate during the Last 16 of the 2006/07 campaign.
Chelsea are unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League this season (P9, W7, D2). The Blues dominated possession and were rarely threatened at the back, so it is hard to see them not booking a spot in the semi-finals on that evidence.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
