3 - 3
Chelsea host Southampton in the 5th round of the Premier League at Stamford Bridge (London) on Saturday, October 17 and the game kicks off at 3pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
After 4 rounds of Premier League Chelsea are 7th in the table with 7 points from a win on the opening day against Brighton (1-3), a draw from the West Brom match (3-3) and the most recent win against Crystal Palace (4-0). In between, their only defeat of the campaign came at the hands of defending champions Liverpool at home (0-2). As for the Saints, in their season opener against Crystal Palace they looked like a disjointed side they were at the beginning of the last year and their misery compounded further by a heavy 2-5 defeat to Tottenham that followed. However, they bounced back against Burnley away (0-1) and against West Brom at home (2-0) which puts them in the 11th place in the table with 6 points.
MATCH ANALYSIS
The way Lampard's side opened their campaign left Chelsea's boss Frank Lampard exposed a bit as the expectations were running high for this season before it even started. However, as Lampard is trying to sort out his defense, he can rely on his potent attack to produce, and the game against their London rivals, Crystal Palace was a perfect chance to turn the corner. Ben Chilwell, their summer signing shone on his debut with a goal and an assist. Lampard also handed a league debut to £22m goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, brought in to replace Kepa who was in a terrible form as of late, and the first clean sheet of the season on his debut will hopefully be first of many for Lampard's side. The fact that there were six changes made by Lampard to the side which clawed back a point in a 3-3 draw with promoted West Brom last weekend says a lot about their squad depth, and we can expect Lampard to shuffle his cards again against Southampton on Saturday.
On September 26 Southampton defeated Burnley by a solitary Danny Ings's goal to end their losing start. Ralph Hasenhuttl's side didn't start their season as expected but they have focused on the defense and it was fantastic to see how much they had invested against Burnley. Suddenly they looked different, more organized, which was actually the key to winning the next three points against West Brom almost fortnight ago. With the rest of the squad, including Jack Stephens, James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong still there, and Danny Ings, who almost finished the season with the Golden Boot to his name, they have a strong core of the team, who shouldn't be in a similar situation to last year. The Saints cannot rely on Ings to win games on his own and will need to be more solid defensively. Winning two games on the trot, with no fresh injury concerns to contend with, and having signed Theo Walcott on loan from Everton and midfielder Diallo from Brest, Ralph Hasenhuttl's side should be a bit stronger when they visit London on Saturday.

In their 18 matches in the last ten years, Chelsea has an upper hand with 11 wins and only 3 defeats to Southampton. Chelsea have scored almost twice as much goals in those matches with 2.11 for them and 1.06 against them. The goal average overall is 3.17.
11 of those 18 matches ended with both teams scoring and I would like to think that both sides will feel they can take something from the game on Saturday.
My prediction: both teams to score

Wyatt grew up in the suburbs of London and he is a big Chelsea fan. As a young boy, he found his love for football, which became an obsession, but when he tried playing it he soon realized that he just wasn't talented enough. Bearing that in mind, Wyatt decided to learn everything there is to know about all the teams and players, with special focus on Premier League and Championship . Wyatt has a big affection for Championship and he is well versed in all the teams and knows their advantages and weak spots very well. He is an economist, and being one makes him good with numbers and also good with the odds. His specialty are BTTS matches.
