CHELSEA VS WOLVES MATCH ANALYSIS
Top-four hopefuls Chelsea are in 8th place and come into this game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Leicester after a much-needed 1-0 win over Fulham on January 19 eased the pressure on Frank Lampard. They are five points behind the top-four, but the Blues are very much still in the mix in spite of their below-par results and performances. As for the visitors, the Wolves have now gone six games without a win (D2, L4) in the Premier League and the most recent 3-2 defeat at home against West Brom was no improvement on their part. They are sitting in 14th place with 22 points and will look to end the barren run with a win here in order to keep their top-six hopes alive.
Chelsea’s return of just two victories in eight league games (W2, D1, L5) has severely dented their title hopes. Of course, Lampard will talk of transition, of new players needing time to settle in new surroundings. He will want all expectations to be viewed through that prism - but this is Chelsea, and Lampard knows the score better than anyone. Their performance against a 10-man Fulham was nothing to write home about, but the Blues eventually got over the line.
However, the Blues had made the journey back from Everton, Wolves, Arsenal, and Leicester with zero points to their name. Beating Leeds to go top of the table in December, Chelsea have taken just 7 points from their last 24 available. Frank Lampard is under increasing pressure after another dreadful performance on a night they could have used to show signs of recovery against an in-form side. Instead, the Blues lacked any spark and urgency, and more significantly desire, with Leicester closing out the win with barely a moment of anxiety all night.
As for Wolves, they had only got a win in the FA Cup against Crystal Palace from their three consecutive home games. They lost the other two league games at the Moulinex to Everton and West Brom and will have to much more than that to keep their season going in the right direction. On the other hand, having their best player out injured has taken its toll as it would for any club. The Mexico international Raul Jimenez’s absence has shown a bluntness in the attack, with youngster Fabio Silva still learning his trade.
After their latest disappointing loss in the league, Wolves have only won one of their last eight matches (D2, L5). The Midlands club have fallen from seventh to 14th in the table and keeping a clean sheet has also been the Wolves' problem - the last time they kept a score to nil in the league was 13 games ago. Nuno says he is very concerned about the situation, but it is unlikely his side will be caught up in a relegation battle.

With Lampard’s job on the line, Chelsea mixed tantalizingly slick interplay with alarming sluggishness and ramshackle defending against Leicester. At times this side looks like an attractive work in progress, but, unfortunately, they mostly resemble a disenchanted side going through motions. Lampard has criticised the players’ attitude several times this season. Some do not seem to be responding.
The Midlands club is in a similarly precarious situation. Wolves have fallen from seventh to 14th in the table and keeping a clean sheet has also been Wolves' problem - the last time they kept a score to nil in the league was 12 games ago. Nuno says he is very concerned about the situation, but it is unlikely his side will be caught up in a relegation battle.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
