Club Brugge will try to stay surprisingly unbeaten when they host Borussia Dortmund in UEFA Champions League Group F on Wednesday.
Brugge has proven to be the surprise package of Group F, with four points from their opening two games. One of the touching moments in the first rounds came from the Zenit – Brugge match when American goalkeeper Horvath broke down in tears after Charles de Ketelaere’s 93rd-minute winner in the first match away at Zenit for a 2-1 win, following his earlier own goal. He was deputizing for the absent Mignolet in that game, but the former Liverpool shot-stopper returned for the 1-1 draw at home to Lazio and looks to have retained his spot as the first choice. The Belgian champions haven’t won a Champions League group game at home in 11 attempts going back to November 2005, and also drew 2-2 at the Jan Breydel Stadium against Mechelen on Saturday, having taken a two-goal lead inside half an hour. It saw them drop to fourth in the table, two points adrift of leaders Charleroi. Hans Vanaken has scored a team-leading six goals in 13 competitive games so far this season; Haaland has hit eight in nine for Dortmund and was second only to Bayern's Robert Lewandowski at the top of the Champions League scoring charts last term - despite exiting the competition in the last 16.
Brugge: Mignolet - Mata, Koussounou, Deli, Sobol - Vormer (c), Rits, Vanaken - Diatta, Dennis, De Ketelaere
Out: Mitrovic (heel)
Doubtful: Ricca (match fitness)
Coach: Philippe Clement
Erling Haaland missed Saturday's 2-0 win away at promoted Arminia Bielefeld with a knee problem, but the 20-year-old Norway international should be back for the short trip to Belgium. Haaland has scored in seven of his eight group stage appearances, hitting 10 competition goals all told. The Norwegian has also celebrated 18 goals in his 20 Bundesliga outings for BVB so far.
Mats Hummels was the unlikely hero with his brace at the Schüco Arena, but he was forced off in the second half with a thigh issue. The 31-year-old’s presence will be key for the current Bundesliga season's meanest defense (two goals conceded), especially with Dan-Axel Zagadou sidelined and Emre Can a doubt.
Head coach Lucien Favre switched from his preferred three-man defense to a back four in Bielefeld, as well as last week’s 2-0 win at home to Zenit Saint Petersburg. Haaland joined Jadon Sancho on the scoresheet that night to get Dortmund on the board after an opening 3-1 defeat at Lazio. American teenager Gio Reyna is likely to start after only coming off the bench in Bielefeld. Favre may also pick his team with one eye on Saturday’s Klassiker, with BVB level on points with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga after six matches.
Reyna has had a direct hand in seven goals from 10 games in all competitions so far this season. The Dortmund teen is the youngest American to appear in and assist a goal in Champions League history. He could yet become his country's greenest goalscorer in the competition. Pulisic holds the record, having opened his account at the age of 18 years and 171 days.
Dortmund was undefeated against Brugge in the 2018/19 Champions League group stage, with Christian Pulisic scoring the only goal of the two games between them. BVB have won their last three games in Belgium and kept a clean sheet in each of those victories.
Dortmund: Bürki - Meunier, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro - Bellingham, Witsel - Sancho, Reus (c), Reyna - Haaland
Out: Schmelzer (knee), Zagadou (knee)
Doubtful: Can (match fitness), Schulz (match fitness)
Coach: Lucien Favre

Brugge made two surprises already in the very tight group but Dortmund should take three points from this game because they are finding consistency in performances and results. Away win should be the most reasonable bet regarding individual and team quality of the Dortmund team.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
