Coventry host Brentford at St. Andrew's Stadium (Birmingham) in the 31st round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, February 20. Read our reasons for Coventry vs Brentford prediction and betting tips.
The hosts are just three points above the relegation zone in 20th after five matches without a win (L3, D2) and after their latest 2-0 home defeat against leaders Norwich in midweek. Now they host another automatic promotion candidates, Brentford, who are attempting to maintain their quest for the first two spots on the back of two consecutive league losses - against Barnsley and QPR – their first back-to-back defeats this season.
The Sky Blues have been missing from the Championship for eight years and Mark Robins, in his second stint at the club, did an excellent job of leading the team back to the second-tier, and he did so in style. For them, the biggest objective is surely to stay up and anything better than that will be a bonus. They still look like they’re trying to find their feet in their long-awaited return to the second-tier of English football, but are currently safe from the drop.
However, the Sky Blues’ two defeats on the string have sucked them back into a precarious position in the league. Mark Robins described a Cardiff match as their poorest performance of the season so far, but against Norwich, even though they lost, they could take encouragement from their second-half display. And with Norwich swiftly followed by second-placed Brentford on Saturday, it’s clearly a difficult period for Coventry to negotiate their way through.
As for Brentford, prior to their two defeats, Brentford were the Championship’s most in-form side, picking up more points across their previous eleven matches than any other team (W9, D2), and scoring 3+ goals in seven of their nine wins in that run. They remain the division’s top-scorers (56), averaging the league’s highest 1.86 goals per match, which was unquestionably helping them stay unbeaten in the league since October, until a week ago.
Brentford may be challenging at the opposite end of the table from Coventry, but their results in recent weeks have been similar. The Bees are coming off back-to-back losses, the latest of which was a 2-1 defeat at QPR. Thomas Frank's men remain second on the table, just four points behind leaders Norwich. However, the chasing pack appear to be closing in fast with Reading just six points behind in sixth place.

Coventry meet Brentford having not won in their last six league encounters with Brentford (D2 L4), losing the last three in a row, losing the reverse fixture 2-0 last time out at Brentford in October.
Manager Mark Robbins is struggling to steer the club away from a relegation fight with their season threatening to spiral out of control. The Sky Blues seem unable to get it right, even at home having claimed just one win in their last seven matches at the St Andrew’s.
Meanwhile, the good news for Brentford is that they seem to do their best work away from home with the defeat against QPR their first on the road since October. They have knocked off fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough, Cardiff, and Reading in that run and will be confident of seeing off Coventry.
