Coventry host Middlesbrough at the St. Andrew's Stadium (Birmingham) in the 34th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday, March 2. Read our reasons for Coventry vs Middlesbrough prediction and betting tips.
Coventry are five points above the relegation zone in 20th having picked up an important point at Blackburn at the weekend. With the season picking up a frantic pace, and with only one win in their last eight Championship matches (D3, L4), the Sky Blues better find solutions to their problems, or they might find themselves right in the middle of a relegation dogfight soon. As for Middlesbrough, Neil Warnock’s side are enjoying a much-improved campaign, but their play-off hopes have suffered a little dent after two games without a win, but they at least salvaged a draw against in-form rivals for the top-six, Cardiff, last time out. ’Boro’s topsy-turvy form continues as they have slipped into 9th, five points behind Bournemouth in 6th.
For Coventry, the biggest objective is surely to stay up and anything better than that will be a bonus. They still look like they’re trying to find their feet in their long-awaited return to the second-tier of English football, but are currently safe from the drop. However, the Sky Blues’ three defeats in five games (W1, D1) have sucked them back into a precarious position in the league. Coventry are winless in 13 of their last 16 overall matches and had failed to keep clean sheets in ten of their past thirteen games.
On Saturday afternoon, the Sky Blues had to come from behind at Ewood Park where Matty James scored his first goal for the club early in the second half to cancel out Ben Brereton’s 27th-minute opener. Coventry’s hard-fought point at Blackburn left them two places off the relegation zone but, significantly, with a six-point cushion over third from bottom Rotherham, who have two games in hand to play on Coventry, and the teams are set to face off in two weeks' time.
On the other hand, back-to-back wins over Huddersfield and Reading have seemingly galvanised Middlesbrough’s ailing Championship play-off bid and with influential winger Marcus Tavernier back in training after a knee problem, but their hopes have slightly diminished after an embarrassing 3-1 loss to Bristol and a share of spoils with Cardiff, both at home. ’Boro need to get back to winning ways in midweek if they are to achieve their targets for the season as the gap on the last play-off spot is now five points.
However, it could have been even greater had Paddy McNair not fired in eight minutes from time against the Bluebirds on Saturday. Visitors were ahead and relatively comfortable and set to offer Warnock a painful reminder in the reunion with his former side. However, in a bid to make things happen, Warnock brought on four attacking changes in the last 20 minutes which had the desired effect. A point was the very least Boro needed and the manner of this draw will give them momentum as they for Coventry City in midweek.

Coventry meet Middlesbrough for the 49th time overall and Middlesbrough have a slight advantage with 17 wins compared to Coventry’s 16. The reverse meeting earlier in October finished 2-0 to Boro at the Riverside, but the Sky Blues were 3-1 winners when they last hosted Boro in 2012.
With both teams struggling for consistency in the recent weeks, Boro cannot afford to let the gap on the top six grow, while the Sky Blues, with only one win from their last eight games, can at least look forward to hosting another side with an open style of play.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
