3 - 2
Coventry host Reading at St. Andrew’s Stadium (Birmingham) in the 9th round of the Championship on Friday, October 30 and the match kicks off at 7.45pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
Coventry have recorded only one win and two draws so far and are 21st in the table with 5 points. Their only win was a second round 3-2 defeat of QPR, followed by a goalless draw against Barnsley and two more defeats. After holding to a point against Swansea (1-1), they got demolished by Blackburn at home (0-4) and suffered a 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough most recently and are now 7 matches without a win.
The Royals, on the other hand, maintained their almost perfect start to their Championship season with their latest win at Blackburn (2-4) which was their 7th win in 8 games so far. Alongside Bournemouth, they are the only Championship side without a defeat in the league so far. They remain top the league with 22 points.
MATCH ANALYSIS
The Sky Blues have been missing from the Championship for eight years. Mark Robins, in his second stint at the club, did an excellent job of leading the team back to the second-tier, and he did so in style. For them, the biggest objective will be to stay up and anything better than that will be a bonus, which was evident in their last defeat to Boro. Having failed to win since September against QPR, and on the back of a thrashing by Blackburn, a well organised Sky Blues side stood firm until the late breakthrough against Boro.
Coventry's decision to opt for defensive solidity over attacking flow meant a tough evening for striker Matty Godden who was isolated most of the match, and only if they had been able to hold for a point, it would have made sense. They need to start to believe and just have a go at rivals defenses if they want to get to the level they need to. It goes without saying that their chances against Reading next are very, very slim.
As for Reading, they are top of the league, with a healthy lead after 8 weeks. Could it be that Royals have finally found the elusive X-factor from the previous seasons in the form of the huge team-work, where everybody knows and understands their role, and especially the ability to adapt during the games. Their identity is still forging, but they have a game plan and they stick to it. The win against Watford marked the club's best start since the 1985-86 season.
Reading opened up a seven-point gap at the top of the Championship after beating free-scoring Blackburn in an exciting contest at Ewood Park. The victory means Reading have won seven and drawn the other of their first eight league games - their second-best start to a league season in their history behind the 1985-86 campaign in the old Third Division when they won all of their first eight games.

These two teams have not shared the league since 2011/12 and have played 10 matches so far, last being in February 2012.
Nevertheless, Reading have been far better in their head-to-head matches with 5 wins to Coventry's none.
Coventry have not conceded in just one of their 8 league games.
Ahead of this round, table toppers Reading are just one of two Championship teams to have avoided a league loss this season (W7, D1).
Reading have kept a clean sheet in 6 of their last 8 league games.
