Coventry host Stoke at St.Andrew’s Stadium (Birmingham) in the 21st round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, December 26.
COVENTRY VS STOKE MATCH ANALYSIS
The Sky Blues have ended their eight-game unbeaten run (W3, D5) after a 1-0 away defeat to bottom-fodders Sheffield Wed on Saturday. They are 18th in the standings with 22 points after 20 weeks and are welcoming Stoke this weekend. The Potters Potters head into this match sitting in the 7th place in the standings with 33 points and have done well despite missing key players. The Potters are set to visit Birmingham for their latest EFL league game, on the back of a 1-0 home win against Blackburn on Saturday.
Coventry have been missing from the Championship for eight years and Mark Robins, in his second stint at the club, did an excellent job of leading the team back to the second-tier, and he did so in style. For them, the biggest objective will be to stay up and anything better than that will be a bonus. Coventry still look like they’re trying to find their feet in their long-awaited return to the second-tier of English football and are currently six huge points away from the relegation zone.
Against the Owls, Tony Pulis got his first win as Sheffield Wed manager as the Owls beat Coventry to end a nine-game winless run thanks to Tom Lees' header midway through the second period. Coventry tried in vain to snatch an equaliser in a game that saw them create more chances than their hosts, but the Owls were indebted to goalkeeper Keiren Westwood for the three points after a number of good saves before his side went ahead. The Sky Blues dropped to 18th in the table, six points above Derby County in the drop zone.
As for Stoke, veteran striker Lee Gregory and promising young striker Tyrese Campbell, former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, goalkeepers Angus Gunn and Adam Davies, and Wales international Joe Allen are all out due to injuries. But, despite missing important players, Michael O'Neill's side has enjoyed some good performances, and the Potters are well-positioned to be in contention for the promotion spots after a minimal win against the Rovers.
Stoke kept a sixth clean sheet in seven games as they held on to the three points against Blackburn after Nick Powell scored what proved to be the Potters' winner with their only effort on target in the match. Stoke defended stoutly for the rest of the game limiting free-scoring Rovers to just two efforts on goal, despite Tony Mowbray's side piling on the pressure towards the end of the game.

Having in mind hosts' long-term absence from the Championship, these two teams haven’t had many opportunities to face each other since 2008. Their most recent meeting was an FA Cup tie in January 2018 which Coventry won 2-1.
The hosts are doing alright even though they were not given many chances before the league started. Since November 7 they have lost only one match and would fair even better if they had managed to turn some of the draws into wins. They will be without captain Liam Kelly, who is facing up to three months out with a groin injury, but on a more positive note, striker Matt Godden is in line for a possible return for Saturday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
Stoke, on the other hand, can again count on Harry Souttar, Fletcher, and Thompson as they came back into the team on Saturday, but are still not fully fit, having trained very little after their injuries. Also, Joe Allen has started playing for the U23 team as he is getting closer to match fitness.
The Potters will be aiming for maximum points, but both sides have been struggling with scoring lately.
