Coventry host Watford at St. Andrew's Stadium (Birmingham) in the 28th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, February 6.
COVENTRY VS WATFORD MATCH ANALYSIS
After suffering a Round 3 FA Cup defeat against Championship leaders Norwich and a league loss against Reading (3-0) the Sky Blues bounced back with a 2-0 win against Sheffield Wed and a 1-1 draw in Birmingham. However, they come into this match on the back of a poor performance against Notts Forest who are now breathing down their necks. The host are in 18th, 5 points from the bottom-three, and an unlikely win here will widen that gap. As for the visitors, Watford quickly forgot about the introductory two defeats in 2021 and were on a four-game unbeaten run (W3, D1), prior to their surprising 2-1 loss to QPR at home in midweek. As a result, the Hornets have slipped to 5th, but are still within reach of the automatic promotion.
Coventry have been missing from the Championship for eight years and Mark Robins, in his second stint at the club, did an excellent job of leading the team back to the second-tier, and he did so in style. For them, the biggest objective is surely to stay up and anything better than that will be a bonus. They still look like they’re trying to find their feet in their long-awaited return to the second-tier of English football, but are currently safe from the drop.
Nottingham snapped Sky Blues’ eight-game unbeaten home run in the Championship in midweek, after Coventry defender Michael Rose's own goal gifted Nottingham Forest three points. Maxime Biamou fired Coventry ahead, but Lewis Grabban quickly leveled and Rose's own goal settled the contest early in the second half. The home side had the better of the final half-hour as Julien Dacosta created openings for Biamou and Gustavo Hamer, while O'Hare also went close, but the Reds held out for an important win.
Watford, on the other hand, are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanise the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield in December, just four months into his reign. Since Valérien Ismaël took charge, their record across all competitions is ‘W4, D1, L3’ under the Frenchman. With just a solitary draw since then, it has been all or nothing for the Yorkshire side.
And it was more of the same again on Monday. QPR came from behind to clinch a late win at Watford and dent the Hornets' automatic promotion bid in the Championship. Troy Deeney smashed home from the penalty spot to put the hosts ahead early in the second half, but Charlie Austin headed in to level. And Albert Adomah's composed finish in the 90th minute saw Rangers end Watford's four-match unbeaten run.

Coventry haven’t hosted Watford for a game in any competition since August 2011, drawing 0-0 at the Ricoh Arena, while Watford have beaten Coventry twice in all competitions since the start of last season, beating them this season 3-2 in the reverse fixture on November 7 and in 2019/20 League Cup tie at Vicarage Road (3-0).
The Sky Blues’ home form is surprisingly decent, having not suffered back-to-back home league defeats since March 2017, when they lost three in a row. Meanwhile, Watford have drawn four away league matches goalless this season, their most in a season since 1996/97 in the third tier, when they drew five away games 0-0.
