Croatia is ready to host France after their first victory in the new campaign in the UNL.
Croatia celebrated their first UEFA Nations League win after a late goal by substitute Andrej Kramaric gave them a 2-1 home win over Sweden on Sunday. The result left the Croatians third in the group on three points from three games. Croatia host France on Wednesday, having lost the reverse fixture 4-2 after they were beaten by the same score by Les Bleus in the 2018 World Cup final.
Midfielder Nikola Vlasic fired the Croatians into a 32nd-minute lead when he shot the ball into the net from 10 meters after a flowing move involving Josip Brekalo and Luka Modric. Marcus Berg equalized midway through the second half thanks to an Emil Forsberg assist, as Sweden's more adventurous approach after the break paid off.
The home side had the last touch through substitute Andrej Kramaric side-footed winner in the 84th minute after an unselfish pass by Ivan Perisic, who found space on the left flank. Kramaric who started brilliantly new season with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga played despite struggling with a thigh injury.
Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic was pleased with his team's start to the match, played in heavy rain at Maksimir stadium. Most of the Croatian media was in the same mood: "Andrej is miraculous even when it hurts him, Vlašić is scoring like a center-forward and Modrić and Perišić pulled us through." Coach Dalić feels there is room to improve: "We played well in the opening 60 minutes but we couldn't keep up with our own pace and we struggled in the last half an hour. I am pleased we found a way to win and we're now looking forward to the home game with France. We are going to reshuffle the starting line-up a bit for that one."
France drew 0-0 at home to Portugal on Sunday in a clash between the world and European champions. The teams could only manage one shot on target in the first half, a hopeful attempt by Antoine Griezmann from the tightest of angles which were stopped by the hands of keeper Rui Patricio. Cristiano Ronaldo came closest to scoring when he fired a left-footed strike at goal in added time but his deflected shot was well saved by France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Ronaldo also nearly scored in the first half but France defender Lucas Hernandez produced an excellent sliding block. Pepe looked to have finally broken the deadlock late on when he placed a diving header in the net following a free-kick but he was ruled offside.
This was the teams' first meeting since Portugal's extra-time win over France in the Euro 2016 final with only 1,000 fans were let into the 80,000-capacity Stade de France due to coronavirus restrictions. Both sides played with urgency, looking content enough to cancel each other out. France coach Didier Deschamps praised his side's defensive work: "We can always do better, but given the quality of the opponent we took precautions, and we did not see much of Ronaldo this evening, but our attackers struggled also, sometimes our movement was not good, at other moments we could not make the final pass."
One player who could hold their head high, in particular, was Bayern Munich's Lucas Hernadez, who was deployed out of position at left-back. Going head-to-head against Ronaldo when you're not playing where you're most comfortable would be a disaster for a lot of players, but not for Hernandez. That's because some fans on social media had a feeling that Hernandez got Ronaldo ‘’in the pocket’’ with two world-class moments.
The goalless draw means that Portugal and France are at the top of Group A3 with the same amount of points as France, but with a superior goal difference while also being comfortably clear of Croatia and particularly Sweden.

These teams played in the World Cup final but there is a reason to believe that France is even better than in 2018, and Croatia has players past their peak. The away win is the most reasonable option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
