Croatia will welcome Sweden on Sunday in the search for the first points in the next UEFA Nations League game at Stadion Maksimir.
Croatia is still in a good state of mind regarding the 2018 World Cup final, but they are struggling at the start of the new Nations League campaign. Zlatko Dalic’s men had all sorts of problems defensively in back-to-back losses to France (2-4) and Portugal (1-4), but Sunday’s clash could be their U-turn. Having conceded eight goals in two Nations League games against France and Portugal last month, Croatia returned to winning ways with a 2-1 away win over Switzerland on Wednesday in a friendly game. It wasn't easy, Josip Brekalo and Mario Pasalic sealed a turnaround victory after Mario Gavranovic's opener on the half-hour mark. Zlatko Dalic tried some new options in all lines of the team, with Inter duo Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic, alongside Real Madrid's Luka Modric were second-half substitutes.
It's likely some from the trio start this weekend, alongside Zenit center-back Dejan Lovren and CSKA Moscow's Nikola Vlasic – both unused in the previous encounter. Their strength in depth is visible, and missing players like Atletico Madrid right-back Sime Vrsaljko and AC Milan forward Ante Rebic is not a huge disadvantage.
There could be potential debuts for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Ivo Grbic and PAOK attacker Antonio Colak. Lille full-back Domagoj Bradaric and Osasuna striker Ante Budimir made their debuts against Switzerland.
Croatia (4-3-3): Dominik Livakovic, Domagoj Bradaric, Domagoj Vida, Dejan Lovren, Dario Melnjak, Marcelo Brozovic, Mateo Kovacic, Luka Modric, Josip Brekalo, Andrej Kramaric, Ivan Perisic
The games with Croatia will be the key for Sweden to avoid relegation, with both sides losing their opening two games against Portugal and France. For Sweden, it was a 1-0 loss to France and 2-0 defeat to Portugal, keeping them currently off the bottom due to goal difference despite failing to score. They beat Russia 2-1 on Thursday at the VEB Arena with goals from Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak and Genclerbirligi right-back Mattias Johansson
Sweden offered always good team spirit and work ethics but now they lack individual quality and some extra class because they lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was their key man for the last 15 years. Emil Forsberg and forward Alexander Isak are playing on a decent level but they need new blood and first on the watch is pacey winger from Juventus Dejan Kulusevski who can provide that extra spark in the near future.
Sweden has no known injury issues and has named a strong squad, including Juventus midfielder Dejan Kulusevski, Manchester United center-back Victor Lindelof, and RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg. Seattle Sounders midfielder Gustav Svensson is suspended.
Sweden (4-4-2): Robin Olsen, Mikael Lustig, Victor Lindelof, Pontus Jansson, Pierre Bengtsson, Emil Forsberg, Albin Ekdal, Kristoffer Olsson, Viktor Claesson, Alexander Isak, Marcus Berg

The battle between Croatia and Sweden is expected to be one to decide who gets relegated to League B, stakes are high, but both teams to score looks like the most reasonable option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
