Milan has started the season on a high note in Italy and Europe, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s absence due to coronavirus and busy schedule could be tricky against newcomers Crotone.
Milan already played three competitive games and won them all, but Thursday’s 3-2 Europa League preliminary round against Norwegians Bodo/Glimt was far from easy. Ibrahimovic had scored three of their first four goals this season and was absent after testing positive for COVID-19 and without him the team must find a new leader and pivotal attacking point.
Superior defense and control of the game in the midfield will be crucial in the next games without Zlatan. Kessie and others must close the space for the rival teams and not let any counter attacks or 1 on 1 situation for their backs. They have the amazing insurance policy of Donnarumma in goal but he can't do anything alone like in the match vs Bologna when he outplayed any other footballer on the pitch with a string of amazing saves.
Milan is unbeaten in 13 Serie A games, their longest streak since 14 in April 2013, putting together 10 wins and three draws. In that time, the Rossoneri have scored at least twice in 12 matches. The visitors have scored 37 times across those last 13 matches, so we see them having too much firepower for a poor Crotone side. Of those 10 wins Milan picked up post-restart, nine were by a margin of two goals or more.
Ante Rebic will probably have to take the center-forward role and that is not so bad, because he has done the same in the last season, with Rafael Leao and Leo Duarte also positive on coronavirus.
Milan (4-2-3-1): G Donnarumma; Calabria, Kjaer, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez; Kessie, Bennacer; Castillejo, Calhanoglu, Saelemaekers; Rebic
Suspended: None
Injured: Ibrahimovic, Conti, Romagnoli, Leao, Musacchio, Duarte
This is Crotone’s second time in the top league in Italy and they will struggle on both ends. They must find a way to score on regular basis and also at the same time to be able to sit back and defend. It is extremely hard with the short offseason, but adding a player or two that could insert into the starting lineup could help. They were defeated heavily 4-1 by Genoa in the opening fixture, but the scorer Emmanuel Rivière will miss out on Sunday's game due to an injury. Defensive howlers were all too obvious last week and they cannot afford those errors against Milan. It’s a special game for Crotone coach and ex-Rossoneri midfielder Giovanni Stroppa but with Sassuolo and Juventus to follow Sunday's fixture, he must think more of the damage limitation over the coming weeks.
Crotone's Andrea Rispoli could be brought in a replacement for Antonio Mazzotta at wing-back. After their improved second-half showing against Genoa, that may prove to be the only alternation.
Crotone (3-5-2): Cordaz; Magallan, Marrone, Golenic; Rispoli, Eduardo, Cigarini, Zanellato, Molina; Simy, Messias
Suspended: None
Injured: Cuomo, Riviere, Gigliotti, Benali

Milan is a heavy favorite to win but fatigue could be their biggest problem because on Thursday they play in Portugal vs Rio Ave. Both teams to score seems like a more reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
