Roma will try to retain their place among the teams that are eager to play in the UCL in the next season as they visit Crotone on Wednesday.
Giovanni Stroppa said Crotone could double their lead in the first half against Inter and warns his side must earn important points to survive in Serie A. The newly-promoted team side took the lead against Inter in the first half, but eventually lost 6-2 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday. After 2-2 at half time, they stopped to play and conceded four goals until the end of the game. “The third and fourth goals let us down. We didn’t hold on, we let Romelu Lukaku turn too easily and eventually we surrender. I don’t know if it was a mental problem or something else.”
Crotone need points to build confidence and stop to think about relegation. “Before games against big teams we always think about negative results, but when we go onto the pitch we prove we can play on a par. We need to do something more, trying to make the most of the goal-scoring opportunities we create.”
The home side will be without midfielders Luca Cigarini and Ahmad Benali, both of whom are still recovering from calf injuries. Arkadiusz Reca is one booking away from suspension. Having taken the chance to rest players during the closing half-hour against Inter, Stroppa could potentially retain the same starting XI. Simy, who has four goals to his name this season, will hope for a recall to the team after only featuring as a substitute at San Siro.
Crotone (3-5-2): Alex Cordaz; Vladimir Golemic, Luca Marrone, Sebastiano Luperto; Pedro Perreira, Salvatore Molina, Niccolo Zanellato, Eduardo Henrique, Arkadiusz Reca; Junior Messias, Emmanuel Riviere
Paulo Fonseca praised a ‘solid’ Roma performance but insisted the Giallorossi could have scored more goals against Sampdoria. Roma pulled out a 1-0 win against Sampdoria on Sunday thanks to an Edin Dzeko goal. “The most important thing was to win the game, the team is doing well, we have been working together and we are more balanced,” added Portuguese coach who welcomed new general manager Thiago Pinto after the match. Team captain Edin Džeko added that he expects reinforcements in January because of the tough schedule regarding injuries, playing in UEL, and Serie A.
Roma has plenty of roster problems at the moment as Leonardo Spinazzola, Antonio Mirante, Pedro Rodriguez, Davide Santon, Riccardo Calafiori, and Federico Fazio all picked up injuries last month. Nicolo Zaniolo is a long-term absentee, sidelined with a ligament rupture since April last year. Midfielder Bryan Cristante is on four yellow cards and risks a one-game suspension. With Inter Milan to come at the weekend, Fonseca could take the opportunity to make several changes to his Roma side. Borja Mayoral may get the nod over Dzeko, while Marash Kumbulla will also be confident of earning a recall to the team.
AS Roma (3-4-2-1): Pau Lopez; Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling, Roger Ibanez; Rick Karsdorp, Gonzalo Villar, Jordan Veretout, Bruno Peres; Lorenzo Pellegrini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan; Edin Dzeko

Roma is a big favorite to win the next match but Crotone plays some good offensive football and both teams to score looks like a very nice betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
