On Tuesday evening reigning Serbian football champions FK Crvena Zvezda will take on Gibraltar champions Europa FC at Stadion Rajko Mitić in the 2nd round of the qualifications for the Group stage of the Champions League.
Crvena Zvezda is the most dominant Serbian football club in recent years with more than decent results in European cups. It is hard to imagine that Crvena Zvezda conquered Europe and won trophy like in 1991 when they beat Marseille on penalties to lift the Champions cup. They won three titles in a row in the Serbian Superliga and they started the new season with four consecutive wins that lifted them to the first position with maximum 12 points and +10 goal difference.
They are always trying to get both trophies in domestic football but at the start of every season, they are focused to gain promotion to the Group Stage of the Champions League. In the last two years, they succeeded and played more than decent games, especially at home with teams like Napoli, Tottenham, and PSG and they won matches against Liverpool and Olympiacos. Stadium Rajko Mitić is well known for hostile atmosphere and their supporters are among passionate in the world. Coach Dejan Stanković had an almost legendary football career and after a short spell in UEFA as an advisor, he came to Zvezda's bench after they parted ways with a very successful coach Vladan Milojević.
Zvezda has a gifted and talented squad with very creative players but sometimes they need a better goalscoring touch. The first games in the Serbian league showed that they found that missing piece because they scored three goals in each game. They don't have major injuries and concerns and coach Stanković will probably rotate squad vs an opponent that doesn't have that class and quality as his team.
They won 3-2 on Friday vs Spartak, at that time second-placed team in the league and showed some things in defense are not on the high note but they could use the next game to gel and find the better form for the next tougher games in European qualifiers.
Europa FC had a great last season in Gibraltar domestic league and sovereignly won the title of national champion. In the 2019/20 season, they managed to leave behind their first rival, St. Joseph, with- five points less on the table, and without a defeat, with only one draw they lifted the trophy. The fact that they scored as many as 85 goals in 17 games speaks volumes about their attacking superiority in the national league.
As for last season's participation in Europe, they played in qualifiers for the UEFA Europa League where they had a very solid home performance and goalless draw vs Legia from Poland but they were defeated 3-0 as a visiting team in Warsaw and that was no surprise because they have lost all games as visitors in European cups. The key player in the team is team captain winger Liam Walker, a standard member of the Gibraltar national team, who scored 23 goals in 22 matches in all competitions in the previous season.
The team is mostly composed of football players with Spanish passports. The duo from Ghana is also very important for coach Rafael Escobar, who has only led Spanish lower-class clubs in his career so far. Kwadwo Poku is an offensive midfielder born in 1992, who wore the national team jersey three times, and second is veteran Ibrahim Ajew, the brother of the far more famous Jordan and Andrew who played in Premier League clubs, but also the son of Abedi Pele, once the legendary footballer from Marseille and Ghanian national team and participant of the famous Bari final in which the Red Star became the European champion.

Crvena Zvezda is a big favorite to win this game and score multiple goals. The team from Gibraltar will try to defend with all men behind the ball, so the early goal could be crucial for winning this bet. The other option could be more than ten corners because Crvena Zvezda will try to dominate from the start and exploit 1 on 1 situation on both wings.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
