Crystal Palace open the season at home, at Selhurst Park in London, against Southampton on Saturday, September 12 and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
The Eagles had a difficult 2019/2020 season. After a good start they ended the season in a horrible fashion. They ended up with seven consecutive defeats before they drew with Tottenham on the final day of the season. They did have their fare share of injuries, but the attack of Zaha, Benteke and Ajew was hugely underperforming most parts of the campaign. Same as with Arsenal and Aubameyang, the key to Palace's season will be persuading Zaha to stay.
The Saints, on the other hand, will be looking to keep the momentum from a really strong finish of the last season, when they head into the 2020/2021 campaign. After their terrible start of the last season when they lost eight of their first twelve games, including the 9-0 defeat against Leicester at home, the board stuck with the manager Hasenhuttl who managed to turn things round in a remarkable way.
CRYSTAL PALACE VS SOUTHAMPTON MATCH ANALISYS
Crystal Palace will have to change their approach drastically if they want to stop the decline from the end of the last campaign. The addition of the England Under-21 forward Eberechi Eze from QPR, who is supposed to play on the opposite flank from Zaha, is a good step in that direction. James McArthur, who has extended his contract, will again play a major role in midfield next to Luka Milivojevic and Cheikhou Kouyate.
However, having the second-lowest goal return in the league last year, it is obvious that manager Hodgson will have to find a better balance for his team, with more attacking mindset, especially against lower opposition. Otherwise, it will be another struggling campaign for the Eagles.
Southampton have a positive record against Palace, with eleven wins against Palace's five. They also have a reinvigorated Danny Ings, who almost finished the season with the Golden Boot to his name, after scoring 22 times last season. They lost midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg, as he moved to Tottenham, but the rest of the squad, including Jack Stephens, James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong, finished the season on a high note, which will bode well for the start of the new campaign.
They haven't been too active on the transfer market so far, but with the addition of Mohammed Salisu from Real Valladolid, they will bolster the defense. The Saints will have a nice mix of individual quality and solid team players, and will surely be a difficult opposition for any team.

Crystal Palace's fans are slowly starting to doubt their manager's ability to make them play solid football again, and it will be up to Hodgson to prove that he's not done in the dug-out yet. With the lack of funds due to the pandemic, he will have to make sure the young signing Eze clicks perfectly with other strikers. To conclude, more adventurous approach is needed to keep them up this time.
The Saints will be up for it, and may even be the favorite before the match. They are no longer looking like a disjointed side they were at the beginning of the last year. The fact that they play the season opener away won't matter much as they had a decent record from home last year.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
