CRYSTAL PALACE VS WEST HAM MATCH ANALYSIS
Prior to this match, the Eagles were knocked out by Wolves (1-0) at the Moulinex from the FA Cup Round 3, shared the points with Arsenal (0-0) at the Emirates in the league, and lost comfortably 4-0 at the Etihad against Man City. They are 13th in the league and could finish closer to the top-half in the standings with a win here. As for the Hammers, after three successive 1-0 in all competitions, they earned their third league win on the trot against West Brom (2-1) last Tuesday and are now unbeaten in six in all competitions (W4, D2). They'll be seeking to build on that success and to catch up with the top-six in this London derby.
Before the Man City game, Hodgson described Palace's situation - 23 points, 11 clear of the bottom three - as somewhat comfortable. The point against Arsenal and their performance in that game only added to their sense of comfort when they went to Etihad. They checked the Arsenal's recent resurgence in a goalless draw and claimed a hard-fought point from a forgettable encounter at the Emirates. However, after losing to Man City next, they have now won just one of their last eight league outings.
Roy Hodgson is one of the few managers to have got the better of Guardiola at Etihad Stadium, earning a win and a draw in Palace's past two visits, but his side were outclassed on Sunday. There was little they could do to defend against the quality of some of City's finishing and the Eagles struggled to earn a foothold in the game, managing just 27% of possession. The visitors' task was made harder with the absence of talismanic forward Wilfried Zaha, who picked up a knock in the goalless draw at Arsenal in midweek but should be in contention for the West Ham visit.
David Moyes, on the other hand, has fashioned a very decent West Ham side that is disciplined while often creative and attack-minded. They have been rewarded for their enterprising play with some impressive results, notably big wins against Wolves and Leicester and draws at Manchester City and Tottenham. The Hammers are very much part of the teams that are within a touching distance of a European berth and Moyes will be also be delighted with their defensive displays as of late.
In the aftermath of the West Brom match, Moyes said he wants to take West Ham to the next level after they beat the Baggies to move within two points of a Champions League place. Goals from Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio secured a 2-1 win on Tuesday, which moved West Ham on to 32 points after 19 games - their highest points tally at the halfway stage of a Premier League season. They didn’t keep the fourth consecutive clean sheet, but the three points were all that mattered.

Hodgson will be concerned that his side have now failed to score in 10 of their past 14 away games in the Premier League, but their home form gives him more reasons to be cheerful with 4 points from the last two games at Selhurst Park. If Zaha doesn’t make it in time for this match, Palace’s manager Roy Hodgson might again arrange his XI in a 4-3-2-1 that featured Jordan Ayew at the tip, with Andros Townsend and Eberechi Eze pushed up behind, even if it failed to show results at the Etihad.
West Ham, on the other hand, are delighted with their revival under David Moyes and intend to reward him with a new contract at the end of the season. Moyes is settled at West Ham and offers them welcome stability. He has made the team harder to beat and has impressed with a limited budget in the transfer market. Even though Antonio scored his 5th of the season against West Brom, they are actively looking to replace Haller with another striker to boost their top-six chances.
