The UEFA Nations League match between Denmark and Belgium at Telia Parken in Stockholm on Saturday could be just a preview of something that will happen in the postponed EURO 2020 next summer.
There will be good football for sure in the UEFA Nations League derby between teams that are in the same group for the next year’s European Championship. Denmark was drawn in a difficult qualifying group with Switzerland, the Republic of Ireland, and Georgia, and their football qualities and hard work paid off through finishing 2nd in the standings with just one point behind regular competitors at EURO’s and World Cup Switzerland and with steady 3 points ahead of the Republic of Ireland.
Despite being confronted with such opponents Denmark they came through without losing a match with 4 wins and draws in 8 games. The last time the Danish national football team lost two years ago in a friendly against Slovakia and their good run of results gained them top place in their 2018/2019 Nations League group which contained Wales and the Republic of Ireland. They also went undefeated at the 2018 WC in Russia, losing on penalties to eventual runners-up, Croatia. That is just a sign of their toughness based on a tremendous work ethic and defensive efforts.
In their last seven games, Denmark conceded only 3 goals and kept 4 clean sheets. They have a new national coach Kasper Hjulmand who just continues the great job that was done by Åge Hareide. He selected this team for the first time and for the Belgium and England matches, he involved two rookies in the squad of 23 players, Joakim Mæhle and Andreas Skov Olsen. For the first time in history, as Hjulmand said to the media, they must fight for the best possible results in three tournaments in 10 months and a wider roster is very important to reach their ambitions in the Nations League, the World Cup qualifiers, and the European Championships next year.
They don’t have a great goalscorer in the attack, but Yussuf Larsen can fill that hole. Christian Eriksen will pull the strings in midfield but players that are capable to find space behind rival defenders must help in the attack.
Belgium qualified for the EURO with a perfect record, having won all 10 of the qualifying matches. Their group was maybe not tough enough as Russia, Scotland, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, and San Marino were rivals but a maximum of 30 points, six more than second-placed Russia showed their will to reach perfection with 40-3 aggregate.
Belgium also made a statement with this generation at the 2018 World Cup, where they showed excellent football until the semi-final and loss to the tournament winners, France. Their coach Roberto Martinez who extended his contract with Belgium football association to the 2023 selected two uncapped players, Anderlecht's striking duo Jeremy Doku and Landry Dimata for matches against Denmark and Iceland.
All big names are available, so goalkeeper Courtois from Real Madrid, defenders Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Leander Dendoncker, Jason Denayer Thomas Vermaelen, midfielders Yannick Carrasco, Thorgan and Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, and forwards Mertens, Origi, and Romelu Lukaku among others once again can show why they are favorites to win any game or major competition.
At the World Cup, they beat teams like Brazil and England en route to the semi-finals, and despite the fact, their charismatic captain Kompany retired after 92 caps they are an elite team. Belgium lost the last game almost at the same time as Denmark two years ago so they half more than confident squad before any game.

This is the match between two teams with a different approach. Denmark will try to keep the net as much as possible and exploit counter-attacking possibilities and on the other side, Belgium will dominate and control the ball through the whole game. Belgium to remain a winning road looks like a reasonable bet after Denmark changed the national coach.
So, my final Denmark vs Belgium Prediction is Belgium to win.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
