Denmark meet Finland at the Parken Stadium (Copenhagen) in the EURO 2020 Group B Round 1 match and the game kicks off at 5 pm (UK) on Saturday, June 12. Read our reason for Denmark vs Finland prediction and betting tips.
WHO WILL ESCAPE THE GROUP ALONGSIDE FAVOURED BELGIUM?
The Danes are in great form, having started their World Cup qualifying campaign with 14 goals in three matches, and came out of their Nations League group with 10 points, including four points taken from England. Kasper Schmeichel, Andreas Christensen, Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg, Christian Eriksen and Kasper Dolberg form a solid spine and could turn Denmark into surprise dark horses. On the other hand, The Finns enter their first ever major tournament finals as rank outsiders. The Scandinavians will be led by Teemu Pukki, but the quality just isn’t close to being on par with Belgium, Denmark, who should be able to defeat them.
DENMARK TO PREVAIL IN NORDIC DERBY
It’s been nearly 30 years since Denmark were crowned European Champions in 1992, and whilst they’re big outsiders to replicate that this summer, their recent form of just one defeat in twelve matches suggests they have the potential to progress into the latter stages. However, since winning the competition, they’ve progressed beyond the group stage just once - way back in 2004.
There has not been a great deal of development in terms of personel in the squad but there has been a clear improvement in the performances over the course of the last year. Simon Kjaer has found the second wind at 32 and formed a solid partnership with Andreas Christensen, while you’ll struggle to find a more hard-working midfield duo than Hojbjerg and Delaney. The Danes only downfall could be a lack of clinical finisher again.
A look at Denmark’s betting odds: Denmark will enjoy home advantage in all of their group matches and should get a crucial win here.
TEEMU PUKKI TO LEAD FINLAND TO GLORY?
Finland’s Euro dreams are finally a reality as they make their competition debut here, although they look unlikely to trouble their Group B rivals given they’ve not won since November 2020 (D2, L4). Yet Markku Kanerva’s side can take comfort knowing that four of the five nations that made their finals debut in the 2016 edition progressed past the group stage.
Finland’s lack of major tournament pedigree makes them an unknown quantity. Most may think that Finland will be the whipping boys of Group B, but in truth, they take very few whippings, and not by parking the bus either. They’ve scored in each of their last ten internationals and the finishing of Teemu Pukki is their greatest asset. They might be underdogs, but Finland’s spirit and team’s ethic are second to none.
A look at Finland’s betting odds: Norwich striker has scored 20 goals in 25 international starts since 2018 and the best bet is to back Teemu Pukki to score here, as well.

This is the first meeting between Denmark and Finland at a major tournament. Their last encounter dates back to a 2-1 friendly win for the Danes in November 2011. Denmark have not scored more than two goals in any of their last 22 games at major tournaments since the 1998 World Cup. Nevertheless, they are huge favourites here. Meanwhile, Finland's qualification for their first-ever major tournament is still seen as a miracle by fans and pundits alike, but they will look to keep face on their debut here in what may be a very close match.
