Derby County host Watford in the 5th round of the Championship at Pride Park (Derby) on Friday, October 16 and the match kicks off at 7.45pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
After three successive defeats at the hands of Reading (0-2), Luton (2-1) and Blackburn (0-4), Derby won against Norwich away (0-1) to earn the first three points of the season which puts them in 20th place in the table above Barnsley and Notts Forest who are yet to win a match. Watford, on the other hand, sits in the 7th place in the table with 7 points, with their most recent Championship match being their first league defeat to Reading (1-0), after two identical 1-0 victories against Middlesbrough and Luton and a goalless draw with Sheffield Wed.
MATCH ANALYSIS
Derby have been distracted last season by the shenanigans off the pitch, but former Dutch international Phillip Cocu managed to navigate through that by giving a group of talented youngsters a chance to prove themselves with the guidance of Wayne Rooney. They were considered one of the play-off candidates before the season started, but their negative run of three defeats on the trot at the beginning of the campaign dId not bide well for their ambitions.
However, Wayne Rooney's sublime late free-kick punished Teemu Pukki's penalty miss as Derby picked up their first points of the Championship season with victory at Carrow Road. Phillip Cocu made five changes to the team that lost 4-0 at home to Blackburn a week before and his switch to a more defensive formation actually paid off. For Cocu this will be a confirmation that if they step up and deliver, even against a strong team and away from home, they can get the result.
As for Watford, they almost managed to stay up last season, but it wasn’t meant to be, as the Hornets ended their five-year stay in the Premier League. They are back in the Championship and in former Serbian international Vladimir Ivić have a relatively unknown new manager. They are definitely looking to get back immediately to top flight and will hope that a new manager can set the foundations to their quick return to Premier League.
They haven't exactly set the league on fire on their return, but they have only just conceded their first goal of the season. After three solid performances on the trot they lost to Reading, who maintained their perfect start. The Hornets were without a defeat in their previous six visits to Madejski Stadium, but their failure to turn chances into goals means they have not won an away league match since January.

As for some stats and facts, these two teams last faced each other in 2015 as they haven't shared the league since. They have still matched up against each other on 16 previous occasions with Derby having an upper hand with 9 wins to Watford's 5.
However, it would be hard to apply those number to Friday's clash simply because Watford have had much more success since then after spending five consecutive season in top-flight.
A draw seems like the likeliest outcome as both teams are highly unpredictable at the moment, but my prediction is going to be - Under 2.5 goals.

Wyatt grew up in the suburbs of London and he is a big Chelsea fan. As a young boy, he found his love for football, which became an obsession, but when he tried playing it he soon realized that he just wasn't talented enough. Bearing that in mind, Wyatt decided to learn everything there is to know about all the teams and players, with special focus on Premier League and Championship . Wyatt has a big affection for Championship and he is well versed in all the teams and knows their advantages and weak spots very well. He is an economist, and being one makes him good with numbers and also good with the odds. His specialty are BTTS matches.
