Derby host Brentford at Pride Park (Derby) in the 37th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday, March 16. Read our reasons for Derby vs Brentford prediction and betting tips.
The hosts come into this fixture on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Millwall on home soil. The Rams are further down in the 19th spot in the standings and will be looking nervously over their shoulders in the coming weeks after not registering a win in the last five games (D2, L3). On the other hand, Brentford were 1-0 victors over Blackburn away from home. The win saw the Bees consolidate their spot in the playoff positions as they currently sit in 4th place, having garnered 66 points from 35 games to date. This was their fourth win in three (L1) after three consecutive defeats saw them leapfrogged by Watford and Swansea in the second place. However, they are just three points off the automatic promotion spot and will badly need the three points here.
The shortcomings seen in Saturday’s defeat are not new. They have blighted Derby for almost all of this hugely-disappointing season. It is now 366 minutes, more than six hours since Colin Kazim-Richards rifled in a spectacular late equaliser against Nottingham. His influence was clear to see and others clearly took notice too, as the key focal point of the Rams’ attack has become a marked man. Coventry, Barnsley and now Millwall have all shown that if you can block the service to Kazim-Richards and keep him quiet, it greatly reduces the effectiveness of Derby's game.
Derby have now failed to score in half, 18, of their 36 league fixtures. Only 25 goals scored in those matches needs no further comment. The alarming statistics are why Derby have been in the bottom half of the Championship all season, and in the bottom six for most of it. Rooney will have to juggle his options again for the visit of promotion-chasers Brentford on Tuesday. There are 10 games to go and the aim has not changed. Reach safety as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Brentford recorded their third win in four matches when they beat Blackburn on Friday night. Ivan Toney scored the only goal of the game, his 26th of the season, from the penalty spot, to give the Bees the win which moved the Londoners up to second in the Championship table, but only for a few hours after Swansea beat Luton on Saturday lunchtime to climb above the Bees and then Watford scored a last-minute winner at Cardiff a few hours later.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank said his side looked to go longer to cut out the Rovers press as he savoured a ‘beautiful, ugly win’. It’s nice to look at the league table, but it doesn’t help Brentford with anything. Thomas Frank must look back on their defensive mindset, which is the thing the Bees have lacked a bit consistently. However, they showed that togetherness in the scrappy win at Blackburn, which you need to do in this league.

Derby meet Brentford for the 38th time having won 15 matches to Bees’ 12. Their most recent meeting came in December 2020 when they could not be separated in a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in London.
Derby have been in a dire form of late and a run of five games without a win has dampened the early optimism that greeted Wayne Rooney's appointment. Meanwhile, Brentford have responded to their run of three consecutive defeats last month by winning three of their last four games in the Championship.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
