Derby host Luton at the Pride Park (Derby) in the 39th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Friday, April 2. Read our reasons for Derby vs Luton prediction and betting tips.
The Rams find themselves in a relegation scrap with eight games left in their 2020/21 Championship campaign, sitting in 19th place, having reached the 40 point tally. They are without a win in seven matches (D3, L4) and only bottom club Wycombe have scored fewer goals. Meanwhile, after the international break, the Hatters find themselves in 13th place, 12 points away from the top six, although they do possess a game in hand over Reading, who occupy the final berth. Following back-to-back wins against Coventry and Preston, they head to Derby and entertain Barnsley during the Easter period.
The Rams have endured a difficult Championship campaign, though things did look to be on the up towards the start of Wayne Rooney’s tenure. But Derby have embarked on a disappointing run of form of late. The Rams are winless in their last seven games, and head into the final two months of the season with their Championship status still up in the air. They are only five points clear of the relegation zone with Coventry and Rotherham having games in hand – the latter with four in total.
On the other hand, wherever Derby do end up finishing this season, this year will have been a learning curve for Wayne Rooney, as he takes his first steps into management after a remarkable playing career. At the moment, Derby’s lack of attacking firepower is a concern, and it could prove to be the difference between having a tricky end to the season and having a comfortable one. Also, in recent weeks, Rooney has been unable to name a team and stick with it and with his public fall-out with some key players, the Rams may be in for a bumpy ride.
As for Luton, their boss Nathan Jones was happy for his side to have an international break despite making it back-to-back wins with a 1-0 success at Preston last time out, which saw the Hatters up to the 50-point tally. The manager admitted the Hatters had a nine-point target out of six games this month –they took nine out of five because of the Rotherham game being postponed, so it’s been a successful month, and Luton are delighted with the position they’re in.
With Luton having stayed up last season and improved this time, the bar has been set higher. The hatters triumphantly reached the 50 point mark with an away win at Preston, and can comfortably look down at the rest of the table and enjoy their run-in. Ahead of their trip to Derby, Nathan Jones’ side have sensationally taken 23 points away from home having scored just nine goals - do the math and you'll see how improbable this is!

Derby meet Luton previously unbeaten in their last nine home games in all competitions against the Hatters (W4, D5) since a 3-2 defeat in the top-flight in May 1990. However, Luton are looking to record a league double over Derby for the first time since that season after celebrating a 2-1 in the reverse fixture in September.
Derby have failed to score in 19 league matches this season, while Luton have won 14 Championship matches this season, equalling their tally for last season. They need just one point to equal their points tally for last season (51).
Having scored just 6 goals in their last ten games combined and having seen two or more goals only twice in the process, BettingKick’s Derby vs Luton prediction is: Under 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
