East Midlands Derby on Friday sees Derby occupying 18th place in the league after winning three in four matches (L1) in the Championship. The Rams have impressed under the management of Wayne Rooney, with the likes of Colin Kazim-Richards and Kamil Jozwiak also doing well. Meanwhile, Forest sit 10 points clear of the bottom three in 15th, two points ahead of their next opponents. With just 14 matches remaining, achieving a top-six spot is realistically out of the question, although that will not stop Hughton and his squad from wanting to maintain their recent form.
The Rams have moved clear of the relegation zone and despite the threat of relegation now not causing immediate concern, Rooney will stress to his players that they must remain focused in their bid to occupy a mid-table spot before the closing weeks of the season. The Rams have responded with six wins in their last eight matches, the latest win being achieved over their closest rivals Huddersfield on Tuesday night.
Collecting 26 points from 14 matches has gone somewhat under the radar, partly due to the presence of Rooney at Pride Park. On the back of Derby's 2-0 win over the Terriers in midweek, Rooney has now guided the Rams to 31 points from 18 games. However, with Rotherham still possessing a game in hand, Rooney will be wary of getting drawn into discussions regarding the future of his squad and Forest's survival.
On the other hand, Nottingham have also had their fair share of time in the bottom three this season. Like their bitter rivals, Forest are on their second coach of the season. Interestingly, Hughton’s side are the same ten points behind the final promotion play-off position and the bottom-three teams. Just like Derby, Forest come into this game with one loss in the last six second-division matches, winning back-to-back games twice in that span.
Tuesday saw them get an important 1-0 away win at relegation-threatened Rotherham. They have now won four of their last five games on the road, after winning just one of their last 16 away Championship fixtures prior to that. However, most of their recent wins have come against struggling sides, while this one will be much tougher, especially with Derby's improved home form and the teams they have been beating.

Derby meet Nottingham having made big strides in recent weeks, especially at home. Some quality teams have been beaten, all challenging for promotion. They are gradually putting distance between them and the bottom three, while Nottingham have been doing the same but against lesser opposition and there are still question marks over their away form despite recent wins.
With pride in the derby on the line, expect a highly-competitive fixture between two teams on the up. However, both managers would take avoiding defeat at this stage of the campaign, and a low-scoring affair is likely on hands.
