After five months Ligue 1 will be resumed with the start of the new season and on Saturday the 22nd of August we can watch a match between Dijon FCO and Angers SCO at the Stade Gaston-Gérard.
Dijon was only ranked 16th last season and might have been relegated if Ligue 1 continued. They will need to play better football and find more points as the visiting team. A victory in the first round could help coach Stéphane Jobard to regain confidence among his players and ease the pressure. They earned only 30 points in 28 matches and scored 27 goals and that must be changed if they want to escape tough relegation battles.
They were struggling at the moment the league finished, winning only one of their final 6 Ligue 1 games. That only victory came in their final match of the campaign, winning 2-1 at home against Toulouse gave them three valuable points in front of Nimes. Their final statistics with 7 wins, 9 draws and 12 defeats with -10 goal difference show that they are not easy to beat.
Their home form is something they can rely on, they are on an unbeaten run of 12 home games in Ligue 1. In those matches, they defeated their rivals 6 times including one against league champions and now finalist of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain. Dijon has only played 4 friendly matches to prepare for the new season. They won first against Paris SC but in the next three matches, they drew vs Sochaux and lost against Metz and Lens.
Dijon has three players injured, first goalkeeper Alfred Gomis, influential right-winger Mama Samba Baldé, and talented striker Yassine Benzia who are unlikely to play any part in the game.
Angers SCO was in great momentum when the season finished. They had a valuable 2-0 victory at a home win against Nantes and before that, they also were better than Montpellier at home and Brest on the road. That important victories got them to 11th place on the table and with just three points less than 5th Nice.
They also kept a clean sheet in this wins but their main concern was performances on the road. They have won only 2 of their last 10 away games and they were unable to find rivals net in 3 of their last 4 away league matches. They depend on the defense to achieve points because their attack is far from good. Anger scored just 28 goals in 28 games and they still don't have a proven goalscorer in their squad. Rachid Alioui just got 6 in the last season as the best in the team, Bahoken scored 4, El Melali and Ninga 3. In the transfer period, they didn't strengthen the attack line reasonably, as always they tried with unproven players that have some potential in pace and quickness, and once again they could have problems with scoring.
They played five friendly matches and got only one 1-0 win vs St. Ettiene, two losses and two draws. Anger spent 7 million euros on established goalkeeper Bernardoni who is sometimes the third goalkeeper of the France national team. They will travel to this game without any injury concerns. It is almost certain that Paul Bernardoni in goal and Souleyman Doumbia at left-back will have their debuts in the starting eleven.

It is early in the season to make some great predictions but regarding what we saw in the last season and not many significant arrivals in both teams it could be matched with under 2,5 goals and draw as the most predictable outcome.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
