Dijon will welcome Rennes to Stade Gaston Gerard on Friday for the first match of the 7th round in the French Ligue 1.
After the international break this will be the first match in Ligue 1, between the last and first on the table. After six rounds Dijon is still without a victory, with just one draw and one point and the first club in big crisis at the start of the new season. They suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to Bordeaux before the break, they have major problems in every department and the last game was just a clear picture of what is happening to them in the first rounds. Dijon had just 5 attempts at goal with just one target, and despite 51% ball possession and at the other end, Bordeaux got 17 shots on goal with 7 of them on target with Oudin (11'), Kalu (29'), and Bašić (89') scoring for the hosts.
Dijon is last in scoring with just three goals, and their defense is one of the worst in the league with 13 goals conceded, just Angers defense leaked one more than them. They know this roster is far from capable to turn things around so, despite the end of the summer transfer window, Dijon is not yet finished with its recruitment. After completing the arrivals of Anibal Chala, Jonathan Panzo, Roger Assalé, Alex Dobre, Eric Ebimbe, and Pape Cheikh Diop, they are still working to find an additional striker as a joker or a bonus player. They are looking for a replacement for Julio Tavares, so they have reactivated the search and their primary target is Moussa Konaté who has a contract until 2021 with Amiens. Dijon is more than interested in the 27-year-old striker, who is also on the watch of Hamburger, Strasbourg, and Angers. Arrived from FC Sion in 2017, Moussa Konaté scored 22 goals in 74 Ligue 1 matches with Amiens. Senegalese international striker (33 caps - 12 goals) should have an instant impact on a Dijon attack that looks helpless at times on the pitch against rivals in this league.
Rennes, on the other hand, has been impressive at the start of the season, league leader of Ligue 1 after six rounds. They will try to be as long as they can in that position and for something like that Rennes needs victories because PSG got into form after a slow start. They played a decent game against Reims in the last round, but a 2-2 draw simply isn't enough for a team that wants to be in the battle for the title or at least grab a place for the next year in UEFA Champions League.
In the last game, Rennes had 73% possession and 18 attempts at goal with just 3 on target and that could be the reason that they didn't achieve victory. Raphinha (24') scored his last goal in the Rennes shirt before he signed for Leeds and Damien Da Silva (37') scored for their 2-1 advantage at the half time. Stade de Reims had 9 attempts at goal with 4 on target. Yunis Abdelhamid (11') scored the first goal of the game and Boulaye Dia (66') scored the equalizer for the visitors.
Rennes scored 14 goals in their last 6 matches but their defense is a little bit shaky at the moment, so they must be tougher and without individual errors if they want to remain at the same course for the rest of the season. Stade Rennais FC has the best attack in Ligue 1 after six games, with 14 goals, they are current league leaders and dominating the attacking table. Guided by an ambitious game plan, Julien Stéphan's Rennes had 64 shots in six games, with 27 on target, so they are very comfortable in creating spaces for good shots.
Boasting the division's top attack with 14 goals scored by nine different players, Stade Rennais also dominates another category: assists. They have racked up 11 assists since the start of the season, more than any other club in Ligue 1. Other areas where the SRFC shine: attacking headers and long-range shots. Thanks to Nayef Aguerd, Damien Da Silva, and Steven Nzonzi, Rennes have already scored three headers this season; only Montpellier HSC has done better, with five. They have hit 17 headers in six matches, the third-best performance in the championship. Rennes are also doing very well in terms of long-distance shots. The Roazhon Park side has scored twice from outside the box, thanks to Serhou Guirassy and Adrien Truffert.

It is easy to choose from the last and the first team in the standings, so an away win for Rennes is the most reasonable option regarding this game.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
