Once again Der Klassiker promises goals on Saturday with Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski leading Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in the battle for the first position in the standings.
Dortmund and Bayern have climbed into the top two positions of the table just in time for Der Klassiker in the battle of the best defense and the best attack. Dortmund has conceded a league-fewest two goals; Bayern has scored a Bundesliga-best 24.
Norwegian Erling Haaland hit a brace as Dortmund moved top of Champions League Group F thanks to a 3-0 win away to Brugge on Wednesday. It was a seventh clean sheet in nine games in this season for Lucien Favre's side, who have by far the best defensive record in the league in 2020/21, having conceded just two until now. Mats Hummels has made a significant contribution, as well as scoring BVB's last three Bundesliga goals. The center-back should be fit enough to start on Saturday after missing the midweek trip to Belgium with a thigh complaint.
Thomas Delaney should move into the back four if Hummels could not make it, but Emre Can is also available having been self-isolating. Gio Reyna could be set for his first start in a Klassiker, to complete with Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus attacking midfield behind Haaland. Reyna received his first call-up for the USMNT alongside Bayern's Chris Richards and has two goals and five assists in all competitions for Dortmund so far this season. Haaland has scored all his five league goals this season at the Signal Iduna Park with a rate of one every 77 minutes.
Dortmund: Bürki - Meunier, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro - Bellingham, Witsel - Sancho, Reus (c), Reyna - Haaland
Out: Schmelzer (knee), Zagadou (knee)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Lucien Favre
Lewandowski upgraded his scoring record for the season to 12 goals in eight competitive matches as Bayern overran Red Bull Salzburg in the closing stages of their Champions League tie on Tuesday, and after being rested for the Matchday 6 victory away to Koln last week, will be eager to go against his former side. Lewandowski has scored 16 goals in 12 games for Bayern against his former club Dortmund. Direct opponent Hummels has also played for both sides.
Lewandowski has scored his league-high 10 at a rate of one per 37 minutes on the pitch. Coach Hansi Flick rarely rotates his team too much, so the Polish goal-getter is likely to continue to be supported in the final third by the likes of Thomas Müller, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman, although Leroy Sane is now fully fit again and pushing for a fourth league start of the season.
The defending champions will be forced to make one change from the Koln game, as Niklas Süle is in quarantine, so Jerome Boateng is expected to partner David Alaba in central defense. Alphonso Davies' absence means Lucas Hernandez should begin at left-back once more, while Leon Goretzka could return to the side following a minor calf strain.
Bayern's 24 goals scored is a record for any club after the first six Bundesliga matchdays. It is Joshua Kimmich who has decided the last two competitive games between the clubs, though: he scored the winner for Bayern in Dortmund on Matchday 28 last season, and again in their 3-2 Supercup win in September.
Bayern: Neuer (c) - Pavard, Boateng, Alaba, Hernandez - Kimmich, Goretzka - Gnabry, Müller, Coman - Lewandowski
Out: Davies (ankle), Nianzou (thigh), Zirkzee (not included)
Doubtful: Süle (not included)
Coach: Hansi Flick

Bayern is the best team in the world at the moment and even though Dortmund improved in the defense since the last season and after the DFB Supercup game they lost against Hansi Flick's side, there can only be one favorite and that are current Bundesliga and Champions League winners.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
