The Borussen derby between Dortmund and Monchengladbach at the Signal Iduna Park will be the peak of the 1st round of the new season in Bundesliga on Saturday.
Expectations are huge always for the Dortmund side that continues to offer an awesome group of youngsters to the football world. One of them was expected to join the Premier League club in the transfer window, but Jadon Sancho scored Dortmund's first goal of the new season, and he was one of the five different goalscorers for Lucien Favre's side in their 5-0 DFB Cup first-round victory at third-tier MSV Duisburg on Monday. In that match, Borussia Dortmund had 76% possession and 18 shots at goal with 11 on target. Rookie Jude Bellingham became the club's youngest ever scorer, and Thorgan Hazard, Gio Reyna, and captain Marco Reus sealed the deal. Last year's sensation Erling Haaland didn't, but his 13 league goals after joining Dortmund in January, as well as three in two games for Norway this month, show that class is permanent and the form is temporary. BVB had bad closure of the last season losing to the likes of Mainz and Hoffenheim, and the fresh start is what they want at the moment.
A player to watch is certainly Sancho who scored 17 goals and had 16 assists. His mazy runs and terrific goalscoring instincts are rare for wing position and there are rare opportunities when he doesn’t contribute to the team. Haaland had almost goal for a game in the last season with goals coming on every 82 minutes of his playing time. Don’t forget to follow US youngster Reyna who had a brilliant preseason with four goals in the five games. Defensively, Dortmund raised at the end of the season and in preseason so the Gladbach game will be a real test for them. Dortmund scored 46 goals in their 17 home matches last term, conceded only 17, and kept more home clean sheets (nine) than any other Bundesliga outfit last season.
Dortmund: Bürki - Can, Hummels (c), Akanji - Meunier, Bellingham, Witsel, Guerreiro - Sancho, Reyna - Haaland
Out: Morey (thigh), Schmelzer (knee), Zagadou (knee)
Doubtful: Schulz (calf)
Coach: Lucien Favre
The man that can stop any side in this league is Gladbach coach Marco Rose. He made the move from Red Bull Salzburg smoothly and helped the Foals to finish in top 4 in last season and only 4 points separated his side from runners-up Dortmund in the table. Memories of the games against BVB are not so good, they suffered three one-goal defeats against Dortmund in both league and cup but they are close to turning the tide in their favor. Gladbach thrashed fourth-division Oberneuland 8-0 in the DFB Cup last Saturday. For Borussia Mönchengladbach, the goals were scored by Patrick Herrmann (13', 14'), Jonas Hofmann (19'), Ramy Bensebaïni (25'), Nico Elvedi (35'), Florian Neuhaus (53', 84'), and Ibrahima Traoré (76'). Team captain Lars Stindl, Marcus Thuram, and Alassane Plea will threaten not just Dortmund, but the whole league and we must take a good look at the French duo Thuram and Plea who had 10 goals apiece in the last season.
Goals will surely come but the form of defender Ginter and goalkeeper Yann Sommer could be crucial to their chances of success not only this weekend but through 2020/2. Centre-back Ginter is well aware of Dortmund's power after he spent three seasons with BVB between 2014/17. He featured in more than 100 games in all competitions, winning the Supercup in his first season and the DFB Cup in his last. Gladbach is one of the more organized defenses in the league and could make problems even for a powerful Dortmund attack. They will represent Germany in the Champions League this season, and tough games like this will be helpful to raise their levels for the elite competition.
Gladbach: Sommer - Lainer, Elvedi, Ginter, Bensebaini - Kramer, Neuhaus - Hofmann, Stindl (c), Thuram - Plea
Out: Embolo (ankle), Lazaro (calf), Poulsen (shoulder), Zakaria (match fitness)
Doubtful: Benes (ankle)
Coach: Marco Rose

We are sure that both teams will play good football and the attacking power of Dortmund could be too much even for Marco Rose relentless defense. Should be a goal-fest, both teams to score and over 3,5 goals.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
