Borussia Dortmund will host arch-rivals Schalke in one of the most intensive derby matches in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Dortmund will be looking to build on their domestic form when they come up against Schalke. A 1-0 win at Hoffenheim last time out - with Haaland and captain Marco Reus coming off the bench to combine for the only goal of the game - made it three Bundesliga wins from four. A disappointing defeat followed in their UEFA Champions League group stage opener at Lazio on Tuesday, though, despite Haaland scoring his 22nd goal in just 25 appearances for BVB and 17 in 19 games in the Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old forward - who found the net in his side's 4-0 defeat of the Royal Blues in this fixture last season - will almost certainly return to the starting line-up this weekend. Reus scored his first of the season in that Hoffenheim win and started at the Stadio Olympico in midweek, but his fitness level and the fact that Gio Reyna was only a late substitute in Rome could see the American start ahead of the Dortmund No.11. Reus has only scored once in nine derby outings against the Royal Blues, back in February 2015.
Elsewhere, Manuel Akanji is back after isolating following the international break and should slot into a three-man backline alongside Mats Hummels and Emre Can. Mats Hummels is unbeaten in his last 11 encounters with Schalke for both Dortmund and Bayern, winning eight and drawing three.
Dortmund: Bürki - Can, Hummels (c), Akanji - Meunier, Bellingham, Witsel, Guerreiro - Sancho, Reyna - Haaland
Out: Schmelzer (knee), Zagadou (knee)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Lucien Favre
Schalke will need to find their lucky charm for the derby game, Benjamin Stambouli has not tasted defeat in any of the six Ruhr derbies he has played in, winning two and drawing four. Schalke collected their first point of the season just in time for the trip to the Signal Iduna Park. Eintracht Frankfurt loanee Goncalo Paciencia came off the bench to head his side level against Union Berlin on Sunday, ending a seven-game losing run, but Manuel Baum is still looking for his first victory with the club - which would also be their first in 20 games. The form does tend to go out of the window in these derbies, with both sides enjoying two victories in their last five meetings. That second-half header from Paciencia could earn him a start this weekend ahead of Vedad Ibisevic, while Mark Uth is working his way back after a muscular injury.
Uth has scored 24 of his 37 Bundesliga goals (65 percent) after the 65-minute mark, including six as a substitute. He has three goals in six appearances against BVB for previous clubs Hoffenheim and Cologne. Kilian Ludewig made an impressive debut at right-back and should keep his place. Suat Serdar and Ozan Kabak are both out.
Schalke: Rönnow - Ludewig, Sane, Nastasic, Oczipka - Mascarell (c), Bentaleb - Skrzybski, Uth, Raman - Paciencia
Out: Kabak (suspended), Serdar (thigh)
Doubtful: Fährmann (groin)
Coach: Manuel Baum

Despite all the circumstances regarding derby matches, this one has a clear favorite. Dortmund is a top team these days with world-class players and Schalke is struggling on both ends of the pitch. The home win must be the most reasonable bet at this moment.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
