Borussia Dortmund is without top scorer Erling Haaland when they host promoted VfB Stuttgart at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.
Haaland is second in the Bundesliga scoring for 2020/21 with 10 goals in eight appearances, but he missed last weekend’s 1-1 draw away at Eintracht Frankfurt and is expected to be out until January with a torn muscle. Julian Brandt was the man in the most advanced role in that game, while captain Marco Reus did the job in Tuesday’s 2-1 win away at Zenit Saint Petersburg that secured top spot in Champions League Group F and may do so again against Stuttgart.
Already the Bundesliga’s youngest-ever player, Youssoufa Moukoko took that title in the UEFA Champions League with his substitute appearance in Russia, although it’s unlikely the 16-year-old be handed his first senior start just yet as Dortmund look to end a run of two league outings without victory, as well as back-to-back home defeats. Marwin Hitz started in goal during the week but should give way again to first choice Roman Bürki, while right wing-back Thomas Meunier joins Haaland on the sidelines.
Dortmund: Bürki - Can, Hummels, Zagadou - Passlack, Bellingham, Witsel, Guerreiro - Sancho, Reus (c), Reyna
Out: Haaland (muscular), Meunier (calf), Schmelzer (knee)
Doubtful: Akanji (knee), Dahoud (ill), Delaney (back), Hazard (muscular), Morey (muscular), Reinier (not included)
Coach: Lucien Favre
Stuttgart is one of three teams yet to lose away from home this season, having claimed all three of their 2020/21 wins on the road. Stuttgart is unbeaten away from home this season (W3, D2). Only Bayern (12 points) and Bayer Leverkusen (14 points) have fared better on the road. That includes a 2-1 victory away at Werder Bremen last weekend as Silas Wamangituka bagged a brace to move the Bundesliga 2 runners-up into eighth place. Silas has overtaken Sasa Kalajdzic as Stuttgart's leading Bundesliga scorer in 2020/21. The Congolese forward has five goals, including three in his last three. All three of Kaljdzic's goals fell across the first three matchdays of the campaign.
Gonzalez missed that and the previous week’s strong display in the 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich after a knee injury stopped the Argentine’s three-match scoring run only weeks after returning from a muscle tear. Boss Pellegrino Matarazzo usually has a settled side but does have one enforced change to make with the captain and former BVB midfielder Gonzalo Castro suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards. Mateo Klimowicz, son of former Dortmund striker Diego, and Philipp Förster are competing for the right to fill that particular gap.
Stuttgart: Kobel - Mavropanos, Anton, Kempf (c) - Silas, Mangala, Endo, Sosa - Klimowicz, Coulibaly - Kalajdzic
Out: Al Ghaddioui (pelvis), Castro (suspended), Cisse (groin), Karazor (knee), Thommy (elbow)
Doubtful: Didavi (hip), Gonzalez (knee)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo

Dortmund and Stuttgart are trying to pick up points through good offensive performances and they will not revert to any other style in the next match. Both teams to score is a very reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
