If Erling Haaland's in the mood for Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin might wish they could have Liverpool-owned Loris Karius in goal beside Andreas Luthe on Wednesday. Read our reasons for Dortmund vs Union Berlin prediction and betting tips.
Haaland took his Dortmund tally to 50 goals with a neon-flecked brace in the 4-1 win over Werder Bremen at the weekend. Haaland is joint-second in the Bundesliga scoring charts with 23 goals and snapped a seven-game drought for Dortmund and Norway in Sunday's game against Bremen. That result ensured that BVB keeps pace with the top-four, with just four points separating them from Eintracht Frankfurt in the fourth UEFA Champions League spot. Defeat, however, would mean the gap to Union would be reduced to just three points, such as the hotly contested nature of the European race. Ansgar Knauff, the latest teenage breakout in Dortmund, was an unused substitute against Werder and will be competing with captain Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard, and Gio Reyna for the right to play in support of their Norwegian goal-getter. Jadon Sancho is nearing a return to injury but the visit of Union may come too soon for the Englishman to feature. Dortmund could miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification for the first time since 2014/15 when they finished seventh in Jürgen Klopp's final season and reached the UEFA Europa League. The following season, under Thomas Tuchel, they were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the competition by Klopp's Liverpool.
Dortmund: Hitz - Morey, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro - Bellingham, Delaney, Dahoud - Reus (c), Haaland, Hazard
Out: Moukoko (shin), Schmelzer (knee), Witsel (Achilles' tendon), Zagadou (knee)
Doubtful: Delaney (Achilles' tendon), Sancho (thigh)
Coach: Edin Terzic
Between Karius and Luthe, Union boasts the third-meanest defense in the Bundesliga with only 35 goals conceded – three fewer than leaders Bayern Munich and six better than Dortmund. It was the latter of the two goalkeepers who featured in Saturday’s 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart, with both goals assisted by captain Christopher Trimmel from the right. The second teed-up striker Petar Musa for his first Bundesliga goal, and the Croatian winter signing is likely to continue as the spearhead in front of Max Kruse. Die Eisernen has twice beaten BVB in Berlin in as many top-flight campaigns but is still targeting the first point at the Signal Iduna Park that could take them a step closer to only a second European campaign in their history. The first came as a third-division team in the 2001/02 UEFA Cup. Eighth-placed Union has only qualified for Europe once in their history. In 2000/01, when still in the third tier, they enjoyed a sensational run to the DFB Cup final. Despite a 2-0 loss to Schalke, they qualified for the UEFA Cup, going out to Litex Lovech in the second round.
Union: Luthe - Friedrich, Knoche, Schlotterbeck - Trimmel (c), Andrich, Prömel, Lenz - Endo, Kruse - Musa
Out: Becker (ankle), Dajaku (foot), Ujah (knee)
Doubtful: Awoniyi (thigh)
Coach: Urs Fischer

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
