Top-four hopefuls Eintracht Frankfurt host in-form Mainz on Sunday with Andre Silva looking to plot a path past visiting defense. Read our reasons for Eintracht Frankfurt vs Mainz prediction and betting tips.
Frankfurt remains in possession of the fourth spot, but defeat to fellow contenders Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 31 - paired with Borussia Dortmund's victory over Wolfsburg - has thrown the European race wide open. Eintracht is one of two teams, along with Leverkusen, yet to taste defeat on home soil in this season’s Bundesliga. Mainz was the last team to beat them on their patch, in June 2020. With a UEFA Champions League place in their hands, however, Adi Hütter's men know they will be playing in Europe's premier club competition next season if they pick up three more wins. Sebastian Rode should return to the midfield after serving a one-match suspension last time out, but Evan N'Dicka picked up a 10th yellow card of the season against Leverkusen.
Silva has six in six and will be out to provide the Frankfurt ammunition going forward. Silva needs one more goal to equal Bernd Hölzenbein’s 26-goal single-season club record, set in 1976/77. A league-high eight of his 25 efforts have been headers. He could have Luka Jovic for the company in attack with Amin Younes having only recently returned from Belgium for treatment on a groin injury. Frankfurt was on the cusp of finishing in the top four in 2018/19 but ended the campaign in seventh after losing their final three matches of the season, among them a home loss to Mainz.
Frankfurt: Trapp - Tuta, Hasebe (c), Hinteregger - Durm, Sow, Rode, Kostic - Kamada - Silva, Jovic
Out: Ache (hamstring), N'Dicka (suspended), Toure (pelvis)
Doubtful: Younes (groin)
Coach: Adi Hütter
Mainz are red-hot right now and - having spent 17 consecutive weeks in the bottom two - are now 12th after a run of eight games without defeat (W5, D3). The arrival of Bo Svensson sparked that turnaround, as did the loan signing of Danny da Costa and Dominik Kohr from this weekend's hosts. Frankfurt-owned Da Costa has made 12 appearances since moving to Mainz on loan, only missing one game on personal grounds. He played six times for Eintracht in the Hinrunde. Centre-back Stefan Bell picked up a fifth yellow card of the campaign in the 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin in midweek and misses out.
Alexander Hack should be his replacement, with Mainz anticipated to be otherwise unchanged. That means Jonathan Burkardt and Robin Quaison should continue in attack as the 05ers look to continue their remarkable resurgence. Following a run of 11 games without a goal, Quaison has scored twice in his last four games. He’s Mainz’s leading marksman in 2020/21 with four.
Mainz: Zentner - St. Juste, Hack, Niakhate (c) - da Costa, Barreiro, Kohr, Mwene - Boetius - Burkardt, Onisiwo
Out: Bell (suspended), Kilian (thigh)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Bo Svensson

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
