Elche play host to Valencia at their Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero on day 7 of the new La Liga campaign.
Elche kicked off the new La Liga campaign with a heavy 3-0 loss to Real Sociedad, but they have been producing fine displays of late. The newcomers are undefeated in the previous three league fixtures, and, no doubt, they are high on spirits ahead of the visit of Valencia. Elche ended a five-year spell away from La Liga when they won promotion via the Segunda Division playoffs last season, and have won two, drawn one, and lost one of their opening three fixtures. Although the sample size is small, Elche average both the lowest shots taken per game (four) and the most shots conceded per game (19) in La Liga at this early stage of the campaign.
The likes of Boye, Cifuentes, and Sanchez are all likely to miss the game with injury for the hosts. Los Che, on the other hand, are paying price for the club management’s poor summer decisions. Several first-team regulars left the club in the last transfer window, and it is no wonder Valencia sit in the 13th place in the standings. Kondogbia and Mangala are both out of contention for Los Che. As for Valencia, it would be fair to say that all is not well at the club, with head coach Javi Gracia recently revealing that he wants to leave the Mestalla and is only remaining in his position due to a contractual obligation. Gracia is unhappy at the lack of investment in the squad over the summer, while the likes of Parejo, Coquelin, Ferran Torres, Rodrigo Moreno, Cristiano Piccini and Ezequiel Garay all moved on. Results have been mixed in the early stages of the 2020-21 campaign.

Given Elche’s current form, there is a high chance at this moment that the visitors are going to return home empty-handed. There is no downplaying the importance of this match for both sides, particularly Valencia after what has transpired over the international break. May just edge it through home advantage.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
