England host Poland at the Wembley Stadium (London) in the Group I 3rd round match of the UEFA World Cup qualifications and the game kicks of at 7.45 pm (UK) on Wednesday, March 31st. Read our reasons for England vs Poland prediction and betting tips.
A decisive 5-0 win over San Marino seemed to set England on their way to a really successful qualification campaign. They went on to show some positive signs in the game against Albania, as well, even if it wasn’t quite as emphatic, with Gareth Southgate’s men registering a 2-0 success. On the other hand, the game against Hungary was always going to be a bit of a slog for Poland with both nations being seen as the ‘next best’ team in the group outside of England - in the end, the pair played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. A few days later, Poland were able to carry some of that energy forward into a game against Andorra that they wound up winning 3-0.
England have so far eased to a 5-0 triumph over San Marino and a smooth 2-0 success in Albania, with Harry Kane and Mason Mount netting in Tirana. The Three Lions struggled on the stodgy Air Albania Stadium pitch at times but never looked in danger of slipping up. Three quick games put pressure on Southgate to protect players already stretched by busy club campaigns, but he insisted the main focus is still to achieve positive results. It was a good win and the Albion now move on in healthy condition to Wednesday.
England are fancied to continue their clinical start to World Cup qualifying when hosting the second seeds Poland at Wembley. The Eagles have enough attacking talent to warrant respect, but invariably fail to perform at their best when coming up against elite-level nations. However, England will see Poland as their biggest challengers for the top spot in Group I so it's important they get three points on home soil here. Nick Pope has not conceded a goal in any of his six caps for England but that will be put to the test with Robert Lewandowski leading the line for Poland.
As for Poland, they qualified for the last World Cup and will feature at the delayed Euro 2020 finals, so a bold showing in this pool is expected. They kicked off with an entertaining 3-3 draw in Hungary, coming from 2-0 and 3-1 down to earn a point at Puskas Arena. Robert Lewandowski grabbed a late leveller that night and bagged a brace in Sunday’s 3-0 drubbing of Andorra. The Bayern Munich superstar now has 66 goals in 118 international appearances.
However, Poland have so often failed to deliver when pitched against higher-ranked teams. That view was backed up by last year’s Nations League exploits, when they did the double over Bosnia and Herzegovina but only picked up one point from four games versus Holland and Italy, and the feeling is they will again be starved of possession and field position here. New coach Paulo Sousa, who has managed QPR, Swansea, and Leicester, may look to keep things tight at Wembley.

England meet Poland having previously lost just one of their 19 matches against them (W11, D7), losing 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in June 1973. Moreover, England have won their last seven home matches against Poland, a run stretching back to 1989 and this is the seventh World Cup group stage qualification campaign to see the Three Lions face Poland.
At home, the Three Lions are unbeaten in 29 qualifiers (W26 D3), winning each of their last 19 and we expect that run to continue.
