England meet Scotland at the Wembley Stadium (London) in the EURO 2020 Group D Round 2 match and the game kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Friday, June 18. Read our reason for England vs Scotland prediction and betting tips.
ENGLAND TO OVERCOME UNINSPIRED SCOTLAND
England will look to carry on their impressive start to the European Championship campaign with a victory over Scotland when they face Steve Clarke’s side at Wembley on Friday evening. The Three Lions made a great start to their tournament when they beat Croatia 1-0 on Sunday thanks to a solitary strike from Raheem Sterling. On the other hand, Scotland travel to Wembley to face England on Friday night knowing their 23-year wait to qualify for a tournament could be on the brink of ending as a nightmare. A Tartan Army were filled to the brink of optimism and hope were completely deflated after a serious no-show in a 2-0 defeat against the Czechs on Monday.
THREE LIONS TO GO FULL THROTLE
It’s a huge game and perhaps the pick of fixtures in Group D as England take on traditional rivals Scotland at Wembley. Coincidentally, their only other previous meeting at a major tournament was in the group stages of Euro 1996, also at Wembley. England won that game 2-0, and have scored 2+ goals in five of the six meetings since. That’s a far cry from the 0-0 in the first head to head, way back in 1872 - football’s first-ever international.
There were plenty of positives to take from England’s opener against Croatia, with Raheem Sterling grabbing the crucial goal on 57 minutes. Phil Foden had earlier hit the post while Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips was influential all over the pitch in a man-of-the-match display. At the back, Jordan Pickford was hardly tested, with the Three Lions comfortable without Harry Maguire. However, Gareth Southgate was quick to guard against complacency, especially with such a high-profile contest coming next.
TIP #1: Harry Kane was relatively quiet against Croatia but this is the kind of fixture which should play to his strengths. The Tottenham striker gets the nod to break the deadlock here in our England vs Scotland betting tips.
WILL PLAYING ENGLAND AT WEMBLEY BE ENOUGH MOTIVATION FOR SCOTLAND?
Scotland fans will pin their hopes on Steve Clarkew who clearly made seriously poor judgment calls against the Czechs in his team selection. But he will need his side to be more clinical in London because they won't get as many chances as they did against the Czechs. And they will also need to defend better against an England side who usually grow into tournaments too.
The first round result means Scotland have never netted after going behind in a Euro finals match, and they’ve now failed to score in five of their seven all-time European Championship matches. Anything but a positive result would make qualification unlikely for Scotland, therefore their recent record of just one win in their last 11 matches vs England will be a worry.
TIP #2: The Scots will not give up without a fight and we suggest both teams to score as our next England vs Scotland prediction. That bet would have paid out in three of the last four meetings between these sides.

The Auld Enemy are just about the last team Scotland will want to meet after they started their tournament with a thoroughly professional win against Croatia on Sunday. However, no matter the result, fans from both sides should anticipate excitement given the two sides’ four head to heads this century have averaged a high four goals per match.
